We have already booked the Doubloon Sail out of St Thomas. My MIL is a little concerned that if she gets out of the boat to snorkel or swim, she will have a hard time getting back ON the boat.
Is there a ladder they put out, or stairs? If it is a ladder, is it sort of skimpy or a heavy duty strong thing?
Sorry if these questions sound silly, we were just talking about it last night and she was saying that she probably won't get off the boat so she's not embaressed trying to get back on. :(

If anyone can give a little bit of a low-down on the access on and off the schooner, I would greatly appreciate it :D

Hey, Jen. That's a good question. I was wondering the same thing because of the girls. The two oldest do competitive gymnastics and are very strong (don't do a push-up competition with them!) but I don't know about the little ones...

Well Michele, it should be a blast!! I can't believe it is 28 days and counting!:bounce:

I know!!!! I'm so excited, almost as much as Teresa! My kids are getting tired of me talking about it...constantly!!! Under 30 days, too. I gotta go....shopping!!

By the way, Teresa and I were discussing the ladder...we're arguing who's gonna be first off the boat and last on! (Don't wanna scare anyone!)

You'll have a terrific time. We did this excursion in January this past winter.

The boat has a very sturdy ladder - but more importantly, they have a couple of really strong guys to help you down. After I climbed down the ladder with a bit of polite assistance, they actually handed down my 9 year old son without his feet ever touching the ladder. They just lowered him gently into the water next to me. He had no difficulty climbing back up after our snorkle time and the guys were on hand to help everyone back up.

Have a wonderful time. The crew is exceptional!

Tmocker! Thanks for the info!! We have a boat, and getting down for me is a breeze, it's the climbing out of the water dripping wet that causes the dilemma!!
How deep is the water where you get off to snorkel?

Yes, I allowed those nice strong gentlemen to help me out of the water as well. I was exhausted by the time I swam back to the boat and I had some motion-sickness thing going as well, so their help was welcome.

I don't really know how deep the water was. You know how it's so deceiving. I snorkeled in Maui once and it didn't look that far and the guy told us it was super deep.

I'm guessing (and this is JUST a guess) that it was maybe 20 feet? Perhaps someone here is better at figuring this out than I am.

You do not get to go up on shore (it is a protected beach) so you never really get close enough to stand on the bottom.

Have fun.

Do they provide life vests? Probably a stupid question, but I was thinkin' of the girls...
