DD11's current 4-4.5 inch zip binder is already mega-stuffed, and she needs a new one...but larger. She is not allowed to remove old papers, so she needs a mega binder.

Can any recommend an extra durable 5 inch (or larger) binder for school?

Thanks!!

If it is already super stuffed and it is only Oct, I would probably just get her another 4 inch binder or a couple 2 inch binders

No, she is not allowed to have separate binders. Ugh!

I don't think I've ever seen anything bigger than 4in binders, could you possibly ask other parents or teacher where you could buy one?

Wow, your poor dd! I thought it was bad when my dd11 had to buy a 3 inch binder this year. She really dislikes lugging it back and forth to school, so most of the time it stays in her locker. And she's allowed to remove any paperwork that the class is done with.. and it's still a pain to lug at that.

What else is in the zip binder? Is it just papers, or does she have a pencil pouch, spiral notebooks, calculator etc in there? If she has other things, taking them out will help reduce the bulk now, but you may be facing the same dilemma in a few months.

If it's already full of just papers, and she's not allowed to remove any, and she has to have "mega binder", then I would ask the teacher(s) for a recommendation. The office stores have 5" binders, but they start at $24,and it has been my experience that no matter the price you pay for a binder, it is the rare binder that actually holds up to daily use, being lugged in a backpack, shoved in a desk/locker and generally knocked about - and the bigger ones perform worse than the smaller ones!

I feel your pain, OP! We are having the same issue. I had to buy dd (5th grade) a 3" zipper binder this year and thankfully I bought the $3 warranty because the thing was full and broke within weeks of school starting . Office depot replaced it, but guess what? Second one did the same thing this week (9 weeks into school) ...and she cannot remove a thing from it; it is all required. :/

What kind of binders do the other kids use?

A binder is full when you can't get the entire contents to fit on one side with the rings open. Put more stuff in the binder and you will start getting lots of page ripouts starting with the first and last pages, then the second and second to last pages, then the third and third to last pages, etc.

Want to try scanning the papers and reprinting them double sided and perhaps also smaller say two images to a page side? Then keep the original sheets at home.
