Hello all : With summer upon us has anyone tryed their hand at making neck coolers ? I'm thinking of making my family some for our next trip to disney, has anyone made any and how did they work for you ? Trying to find out if it's worth the trouble of making some . TIA

I made some with Disney fabric for our trip to DisneyWorld. We put them in the freezer each night and they worked great! You can buy the polymer crystals on eBay. I paid a little over $6 with shipping and it was enough to make more than 20 neck coolers. You can find lots of patterns on the web. Just type "neck coolers" and some instructions should show up. this sounds really cool.. Is there somewhere besides the internet to get the crystals?

We got the crystals from michaels crafts. it's the same gel they use for putting in the bottom of a bowl for flowers or candles too. just don't over stuff your cooler with the crystals cause they expand and if you've over stuffed them it won't bend and conform to your neck.

I have made 4 of them for my family (smaller for the kids) and they worked great for our trip in august last year.

I don't have pics of them though...sorry.

I bet the crystals are the same as are in diapers. A few months ago my 2 yr old daughter got a cold and we ended up in the ER. They gave her an IV and some fluids and charged us $600.00 for the water.

I saved her wet diaper and put the crystals in my garden. I told my wife, "If I paid $600.00 for some pee then I was gonna get some use out of it." We call it the most expensive flower bed in the garden.

I found the crystals at Craft Warehouse. I made them for my daughters softball team and they turned out great. The girls loved them.
I have a serger so I used it for the main seam and sewed the edges after filling them. Much faster and easier that way. I even used my mom's embroidery machine and put their names on it.
Be careful to not over use the crystals, you can get to many. I experimented with one first to get the right amount.
