I just bought some. Do these things work? We can't stand the heat/humidity. I'll try anything to keep us cool. I am hoping these things work. I am also going to put a freezer pack in a towel and put it under my DD's pad in her stroller. GOt the Mister/Fan for each of us and 2 fans for the stroller. Boy..are we going to look funny with all that stuff!

I just bought 3 of these for my upcoming trip. I am not expecting miracles, just temporary relief.....

Am also bringing my misters. I hope that it will help a bit. I am pretty good with heat, I bought the neck bands for my 2 DD,s and DH. I just want tem to enjoy WDW as much as possible without suffering from the heat too much.

They actually work pretty well. The gel holds the cold for quite a while.

I bought some for our trip we recently returned from. I thought they worked really well. I soaked them in ice water for about 30 minutes & oh did they feel good when 1st putting them on lol We did not arrive at MGM till 12:30 & we did fine with the heat. I am not one to deal easily with hot tempatures & humidity, but I had no problems this day or any of the other days at the parks. You will need to wet them down again while at the park.

Should you soak them for 30-60 mins. in cold water and then refridgerate them. I heard you can get the maximum effect doing it that way. We'll be OK. It's my 2 yo DD that I worry most about. Maybe I'll get DH to take her back in the middle of the day and them come back.

We did not have a fridge in our room, that is why I soaked them in Ice water. But I am sure putting them in the fridge after soaking would work well to. My 2 ds wore them & they did not complain about being to hot. They are worth trying.

Where can you buy these?? My DH and DS8 overheat really easily and of course we are going in July! Sounds like they might help. :earsgirl:

I know you can purchase them online & I have heard Walmart sells them. I bought mine from a friend, her mother makes them. They are suppose to be easy to make, but I do not sew lol Here is a link for QVC, it will show you a picture & they have a good price, 6 for $18.68

we love these!
I had to break down and buy another at animal kingdom, paid a fortune , but was worth it.

Walmart had them, I just ordered 2 mickey mouse ones from
www.craftywench.com

You soak them in ice water put in a ziplock bag till you get to the park, and off you go! You will have to rewet during the day, but it really does help.
they do drip when you first put them on.

we use these at baseball games also.

Mine specifically recommend not to refrigerate them. This is taken right from the instructions:

If you choose to store your Neck Buddy in the refrigerator, please note, you will increase the chance of mold forming, and the Swimming Pool Effect is more likely to occur. The Swimming Pool Effect happens when you first wear your Neck Buddy and your body becomes acclimated to the fabrics cooling, so it no longer feels like it's working.

It also says:

How does the Neck Buddy work to keep you cool?
When placed around the neck, the Neck Buddy lowers your body temperature by cooling the carotid arteries in the neck, and provides an evaporative cooling system for your body to help relieve heat stress.

I followed the instructions that came with mine and soaked it for 5 minutes, and then disbursed the crystals more evenly, and then soaked it for another 25 minutes. I just did it in normal cold tap water. The instructions also say to rehydrate every 3-4 days, and boy was that true! It stayed hydrated for several days and took a long time to dry out. I never had to re-soak it and it has just now completely dried out this week.

Mine were still wet when we returned home, they do take a while to dry completly.

We use these on our trips to the World, and also for summer swim meets. They work really well. I turn mine over frequently, while leaving it around my neck. The side that is *not* against your neck will always be cool. This cuts down on the number of times you need to "rewet".

I sewed a number of these for the use of officials at our swim meets. Here is a website with instructions.

I ordered mine from www.craftywench.com. I did see where you can make them, but I can't sew. I am going to give the directions to my MIL who LOVES to sew. On the website I bought it from said you could put them in the fridge, but since somone else didn't recommend it, I'll soak in cold H20 and then put ice water in a ziploc freezer bag until we get to the park. Here's another question: My just turned 2 yo may not keep it on her neck. Well...forget that...I am just going to tie it so she can't pull it off. Can it be used on small children? (2-4 yo?) We also have these clip on fans (from www.onestepahead.com) that are battery operated and they'll clip to a stroller (one on the tray and one on the handle for us). I bet they'd be good if you get a Segway or if you have a wheelchair bound person.

We just bought one from Wal Mart last weekend for my daughter to wear during a softball tournament. She loved it!

Picked some up at Wal-Mart today. They are called Aqua Cool and costed $2.88 each.

Another web site is www.roshgo.com - They have a whole clothing line including hats, visors, bandanas and headbands. They also sell the gel if you wanted to make your own.
