We are leaving in one week for our first trip home! We will be staying at BCV. We have a two bedroom and a studio as there will be 8 of us total (4 kids and 4 adults). For those of you who have done a large trip like this- what is an absolute necessity to bring?

I have a huge list of what is necessary for me, but the one thing I will advise is for you to shop ahead of time if you can if you plan to use groceries. If you're driving stop at a local supermarket, if you're flying and then taking a towncar most will make the stop at no additional charge. It's nice to have a full fridge, and the price for groceries at WDW is higher (naturally) than a supermarket. If your room isn't ready they will store your perishables in a fridge until it is.

Oh and don't forget the kids, although I have been tempted on occasion. :teeth:

You live in GA, that must mean you are driving. I would say be careful not to take too much with you, I tell my wife, we are not going to the Congo here, it is Orlando where you can buy whatever you want. Some people will tell you where to shop for food, I am no good at that. I take paper towels with me and Windex for the bug kill on the windows. There is nothing special that I take that I can tell you. You might want to take a bottle of laudry detergent. If you are big soda drinkers you might want to take some down there from GA. WDW sells soda for 2.50 for a small bottle, then again you can buy that stuff at the store down there or one of those gas stations. You might want to bring napkins and if you use salt and pepper bring it, I don't think they have either at DVC anymore. As you know there are many, many restaurants around BCV so there really is not much need to cook. You might want to have stuff for breakfast especially for the kids in your unit, they sell breakfast stuff right there at the resort.

There are a few things that I thnk are necessities. If oyu are driving, and have room in the car, I suggest you pack the "household" type stuff in one of those Rubbermain storage containers. I remember reading a post from someone who did that, and thenfound the empty container to be veryuseful around the unit during their stay. This persona actually packed their clothing in one and their household stuff in the other. The bell staff liked it because they were easy to stack and move!

Anyhow, my list of necessities:

1. Laundry soap
2. Softener sheets
3. Spray deodorizer(leave in the toilet area... you'll see;) )
4. Ziploc bags
5. Saran wrap or foil or those quick covers
6. Stain pre-treater (I bring a Stain Stick)
7. Salt & pepper
8. Coffee filters

If you're driving, it's probably easier to bring this stuff with you, because chances are the grocery store at home will be cheaper than the one close to WDW in the Orlando area. If you do need to shop in Orlando, there is a Publix on SR 192 that is nice and there is a Winn Dixie, which is just outside the Downtown Disney area gates. Go to those gates, tke a left and go down the street about 5-10 minutes and Winn Dixie will be on your right. Try to stay away from Goodings, which is in the Crossroads Mall right across from the gate near DD, as they are VERY expensive!!!!!!!!

We usually pick up breakfast and snack items, soda, whatever other beverages we want, bottled water.

If you are driving, I would add some other food items to Disney Doll's list.
Coffee and tea
favorite cereal (we have had difficulty finding some of ours down there)
sugar

We stick to breakfast and evening snacks:

Coffee/filters
Coffee mate creamer
Milk
OJ
juice boxes
bottled water
eggs
beer
wine
soda
popcorn
poptarts
english muffins
butter
zip loc storage bags
our own preferred brand of soap
dish soap (liquid)
Spatula (I dont like metal and that is what was supplied)

One suggestion if you are planning on cooking. Check the equipment you are supplied when you get there. We had to have a pan replaced and it was just as we were getting ready to cook eggs. The delay wasnt bad but when you are dealing with hungry kids 5 minutes can seem like a lifetime.

Actually, they do have grocery stores in FL so you don't have to haul that much with you.

"Try to stay away from Goodings"

Goodings actually has a nice selection of prepackaged foods that can be heated up or eaten as is. That said, I've found Publix (over near the Outlet Mall and Dolly Parton's place) to be very clean, good prices and an excellent selection.

You might like to organize your thoughts around the appliances available to you.

--What would you like to be able to microwave?
--What would you like to pop in a toaster oven?
--What would you like to use with a coffee maker?
--What would you like to find in the fridge?
--What would you like for the washer and dryer?

Thinking about it this way will help you distinguish between what you'd use in an ordinary hotel room and what you'd use in a villa.

My most important item would have to be bath fizzies for the long bath you'll want to take at the end of the day.:fish: :fish: :fish:

There is a Walmart Supercenter close by at 4444 West Vine. We usually do all of our shopping there. Very convenient!!

What to bring?

I bring my own DVC coffee mug because the ones in the Villa are too small! Also, coffee, filters and my favorite french vanilla creamer. I like to bring my small cutting board and a couple of knives that I prefer to use over those supplied.

If this is your first DVC trip, start a master list for use next time. We have one cupboard of stuff that is just for DVC trips. It includes such things as laundry detergent, camping style salt and pepper shakers, coffee filters, walkie talkies for the parks, and our DVC members bag that I like to use down there!;)
