Necessary, Luxury, or Useless

I like to vacation when i'm on vacation as well, I can cook and clean at home everyday. Although i usually choose not to.

Most folks have covered the basics, but here are a few toys I've bought that have made things really helpful.

Zodi Hot Water Portable Shower. Now I don't use it to shower, but use it to make hot water for dishes, etc. I don't have a hot water heater, so that is a lot quicker than boiling water in a tea kettle.

Small electric blower. I just got this and have used it only once, but it's been great. I used it to blow off the green pollen from my shelters before packing them up, and use it to blow off the rugs before packing them up. Lots better than a broom. I'm sure for my longer trips at Ft. Wilderness it will be great as by the end of two weeks, pine needles were everywhere, and a broom just wasn't cuttin it.

Electric drill (and adapter purchased from the RV dealer) to raise and lower my stabilizer legs. Sure beats hand cranking.

I installed an XM Radio Cradle in my camper, so I can move my radio from the truck to the camper. If you don't have a good TV signal or regular radio signal, you can always get an XM signal.

I didn't read really closely, but a few critical things you need in your kit is fuses, light bulbs (RVs have some strange light bulbs in them), and make sure you have a socket and torque wrench for your camper tires.

Also, you need an electrical tester to make sure the power at the campsite isn't going to blow out your electrical system on the camper. Nothing fancy. I use the following with an adapter. If the lights glow the correct colors, the power is OK.

This a grea thread. we are in the same boat. We go to pickup the new TT this weekend. We have been using a pup, and had been already thinking of things we can stock in the camper. With the pup we were so limited. You guys have some great ideas!

Geeze you all are making me feel bad here.. I probly bring way too many usless/luxury items to the fort! a select few would be my 3 laptops, playstation 2 & all games, xbox & all games, Clothes Steamer, feather bed, full size blender ect ect.

Speaking of sheets in the travel trailer...you know those bunk beds that you can never find the correct size sheet for? Well I bought the t-shirt sheets from Target. They are stretchy and can you can fit them nicely on the bunks even if the sheet is a bit big or small. They are very comfy and the kids love 'em.

And I have to agree with PolyPixie and others...I LOVE the outdoors, camping, hiking, fishing etc...but give me a cool, dry, comfortable place to sleep after a hot shower!! :rotfl:

We couldn't vacation w/out our microwave & George Foreman grill- perfect for every meal :)

don't forget to do a couple of small trips with the camper before you go on a big trip, that way you will find out in a hurry what is important to your family and what is not so important...you will most probably forget something, so best to forget it on a small trip than a big one:thumbsup2

Since we are from the same general area let me tell you that your going to need a bunch of change for the 2 billion, 9 ft wide toll booths.
I thought it was around $90.00 down and back.

$90.00?!?! CHA~CHING!!! Just because we're not spending enough money on gas, right? lol Were the majority of tolls in NJ? Would you happen to know if they are they part of the FastPass system?

If I remember they were mostly from here, ct, ny.
After that I dont think there was all that many.
Some of them were within a couple hundred yards of each other.
And all of the wide lanes were closed.
I am at 8 1/2 feet wide and there was no more than 6 inches on either side at curb height.
And yes most were fast pass but at the width that the bus is, "nevermind the mirrors", there is nothing happening fast thru those tolls.

Don't forget the griddle for pancakes. It's a must for DH. He makes them for the whole gang when we're with a group.

Also the best thing you can have is paper and a pen. That way when you find you have forgotten something you can write it down right away to put in before you leave for your next trip.

I like to use the term "necessary luxuries" pots and pans on vacation don't fit in that category ;) However, 400 thread count sheets do

.......wait until you try the 600 count bushed egyptian cotton!!!! OMG....you will not want to leave the trailer!

oh, you are so right, the more you wash them, the softer they are...i wish they didn't cost so dang much! i had a set in college and it led to many skipped classes;)
