As I was leaving work around 4:20pm I looked out the back window and saw one of the blackest skies I had ever seen moving in.
I thought maybe I could beat it home but this thing was moving so fast as I got to the car....this wall cloud rolled over. I had never seen a cloud churn so much. The wind kicked in big time. I thought about going back into the building but the parking lot is a long distance away and it was now pouring buckets.
The wind was bouncing my car around. I decided to ride it out in the car. The power poles in front of me were swaying back and forth so I moved car to another part of the parking lot the whole time it felt like someone was on my car bouncing it around.
When it the storm eased up some I left.

Well it was good I stayed in the parking lot because on one of the side streets I take there was a large (8ft diameter)tree across the road. If I had left the parking lot any sooner I might have been right at that spot when the tree came down. Well a pick up truck came roaring around the corner behind me so I quickly pulled into a driveway to get out of the way. Well I should have looked more carefully before turning into this driveway. There were downed and hanging sparking power lines all around me. None were touching the car so I quickly pulled out of the driveway before any came down on the car.
All the way home I was dodging down lines, branches and trees.
The sky was so dark it was like 10:00pm at night.
Several trees in my neighborhood are have lost very large limbs.
Hope all the others here in this neck of the woods are okay

Glad you made it home safe :D A friend of mine works in downtown Detroit and said the sky was green! And very dark. It was raining pretty hard where I'm at, but not as bad as you got.

Just a lot of rain and a little hail here in the Lorain area. They were saying it would be a lot worse so we took the kids in the basement. But it wasn't that bad here.

I was at work, and we had to take the kids to the bathroom, we were pretty cramped in there, 17 kids, 3 teachers, and a mother who got stuck there too. We were in there for quite a bit of time. Some trees came down, and branches were flying everywhere. It was not fun.

My mom and I were in a supermarket parking lot. First, the wind picked up. Next, the rain started and the power in the area went out. Then, I had to pull over as the heavy rain made it impossible to see anything. We thought that was bad enough, but then the hail started! OMG, I never want to hear the sound of hail beating on my car again! :earseek: I thought for sure the windows would break and we'd be pelted. The streets are now totally flooded. It was pretty scary and it came out of nowhere!

Glad you made it home safely... the same storm is going through the central part of Ohio right now. The whole house is shaking when the thunder comes through and the wind and hail are making me a bit nervous. I am just glad I have a laptop that I use wireless connection on so I feel safe using it while this is going on.

I just pray my friend from Cleveland makes it here safely tonight...

That storm came in so fast. The trees were bending in half, we have limbs and what not all over the yard. Hubby finished delivering (walking route) the mail just as the storm hit his area. He said a tree went down behind his mail truck. I have seen clouds move across the sky so fast. I did take some video since it was so awesome.

I too got stuck in the storm. As I was on my way to Chargrin BLvd. to meet and pick up my stepdaughter, I watched the storm in my rearview miror coming up fast. I was in a parking lot and watched the storm hit hard! The hail was about the size of dimes! I had my other three children with me (5yr DD, 3 yr DS, and 4 month DD). My DS slept through it, 4 mo. DD watched the wind bend the trees, and my 5yr DD wanted her daddy. Glad to see that it has passed and the sun is now out!

The rain Gods did a number on us today!

To Quote Winnie the Pooh..........
"And the rain rain rain came down down down...."

We lost power for three hours. I was on my way home from work and I watched the storm out my passenger side window. When I got to my exit at I-271 and Route 82, the sky was clear. As I waited for the light to turn green, my car started rocking. The sky turned black. By the time the light changed and I turned the corner for home, the power for the traffic lights went out. I called home to tell my family to look out to the west to see the storm. By the time I had driven the two miles from the exit to our house, it was raining so hard that I could hardly see the road. And as I pulled into my driveway, the hail started. My family had to open the garage door manually so that I could pull in out of the storm.

Sue is working on a large wedding flower order and, without power, our basement was too dark to work. I hooked up an inverter to our van and ran an extension cord to the basement. I was able to power the flourescent light over her workbench and she kept working. You gotta love technology.

I'm glad that everyone survived the storm. I see a lot of new names of NE Ohio DISers. I'd love for you guys to come over on Memorial Day Sunday for our annual DIS picnic. Check out the Dis Meets Board for details.

Josh and I are okay! That was one NASTY storm tonight! We had our cats packed up in their crates just in case we needed to run to the basement. I was really worried. We lost power for awhile and our internet just came back up. There were several large branches and trees down in our neighborhood, but no major damage. I hope everyone else is alright!

PS. We can't wait to meet meet some of you at the DIS meet on May 30!

It was sure a nasty one. I was on my way home from picking up my son from school when the rain and hail started. I thought I was going to get blown off the road. I'm glad it stopped by the time I had to go to Lorain to pick up my mom or she would have been stuck. I panic in that type of weather when driving.

Glad to hear everyone is alright!!:D

I saw the storm coming and let my employees out early...but one of them stayed too long! A giant tree next to our parking lot crashed down and right across her car!! I was just glad she wasn't in it!! The tip of the tree missed my car by inches. It was an amazing storm. It really was like 10 o'clock at night at 4:30!

Towncrier: I have been interested in your DisMeet, but as a sort of newbie was a little shy...

I think that there will be a lot of newbies at the picnic. At least I hope so.

I have a lot of branches to pickup today. Sue was out this morning and saw a lot of small trees down in our neighborhood. I don't think that my back yard will ever completely dry out. I'll report back in July when the yard turns to concrete.

Hi, all! What a scary ride home, shutterbug! It sounds like you got it worse than we did. I can't remember a storm coming on so fast. One minute it was nice and the next..... Thank goodness all we got here in our area was that dark, scary sky and some hard rain.

Did any of you get that hail storm we had earlier this week? We live just blocks away from where it hit. The hail was the size of golf balls. The car dealerships close by are full of cars with hail damage. I hear they are offering a scratch and DENT sale.

My kids got off the bus minutes before it hit our area (Summit County). I hurried them into the house, grabbed my 21 month old, and we headed to the basement (the dog came too). Part of our basement is above ground level, so we could see the winds out the windows/doors. It was pretty scary, but the worst of it passed within 10 minutes. Unfortunately, our electricity was then off until 10pm.

Our yard is a mess, but I'm just glad it wasn't any worse than it was. Glad to see no one here had any injuries!

The storm hit us around 5:00 pm on friday. We haven't had cable TV or RoadRunner internet service now for almost 24 hrs. A lot of neighboring communities still don't have electric. The storm only lasted here about 15 minutes but did a lot of damage.

P.S. Posting this while I checked e-mail at our local library. First time I have ever done this at the Library. Especially since we have 2 PC's and a notebook at home with wireless hookup.

Hopefully our cable TV and internet service will be back on tonight sometime.
