NCL Bans Food Outside of Dining Areas

That would make me unhappy. I may want to bring my dessert back to my room to eat later if I'm too full to eat it right after dinner. And I may want to grab something from a buffet or quick service location, that isn't available from room service, and go eat it on my verandah. Or let my kids eat in our room while they watch TV and I take a shower, or pack, or whatever. We also liked to take some cookies or other snacks from the cafe or buffet to a show. All of that flexibility is one of the things about we really liked about our cruise, and losing that would lessen some of the appeal of cruising over other types of vacations.
I'm not sure if you are referring to NCL or DCL when talking about taking items into the theaters but IF you were talking about DCL, it was made very clear to the audience on our recent trip that no items were to be taken into the theaters (drinks or food) unless they were purchased from the concession stand outside the theater.

Was anyone policing this? Not that I noticed - as I did carry in my refillable beer mug (with beer in it) once (before hearing the warning) and another time I carried in my Nalgene water bottle (which was sealed). I had wanted to bring in cookies as that was a tip I had heard from others on here but after that warning, I didn't. (Being a cast member spouse, we have to follow rules very closely as we are to be an example and hubby could have repercussions if I were to have "misbehaved."

Wow! Really? Did they just start this? Sorry, but that is one "rule" I would have a very hard time with. I take my own cup with me all of the time, and my own snacks (if I'm hungry after all the great food).

Not sure honestly as this was my first DCL cruise. We also later realized that you weren't allowed to take pictures during the shows either (hubby is a professional and never uses flash in attractions or shows or bothers others around him - even the camera is on silent) so we only have pictures of the first show.

The way it was said leads me to believe that's been the rule for awhile but it's never been enforced. Don't know for sure though.

After seeing the messes left in the parks, I can understand it - from both sides. I am an avid popcorn eater during movies (which, of course, is allowed if purchased at the concession stand). It's just part of the experience for me. However, I will say that on the Magic last month, I was too full to even consider it most of the time (and surprisingly only gained two pounds during the seven night cruise).

We were on the Wonder in March and I brought a warm pretzel to the Buena Vista theater, plus a hot tea and no one said anything. Lots of people were eating as well, with full hamburger meals. There were no announcements or anything. I did try to bring chicken fingers into the Walt Disney theater for my son who was having way too much fun in the Edge and hadn't come out to eat all day. I was stopped(understandably). The no "outside food" in the movie theater must be a new thing.

I always bring drinks into the movie theatre. I will continue to do so until someone physically stops me. If it's ok to bring food and drinks in that our bought at the concession stand it sounds like their trying to make money off it. No different than our local movie theatre. Of course like most people I just bring what I want in my purse.

The "no pictures during the shows", is pretty standard. I don't know of any live theater that allows pictures. This is because of copyright and distraction issues. I'm glad you didn't get in trouble for it, since you didn't know.

Yes - just wasn't something we thought of. His last DCL cruise was eight years or so ago. He documents everything with photos (which is good as I generally don't carry mine). Although I will note that most of our cruise pictures don't have people in them (as in not him and/or me). As this was our honeymoon cruise, it's strange to look at them now. LOL Of course, that just means we need to take another one!

I cruised NCL over spring break of 2014 and I honestly don't remember taking anything out of the restaurants other than coffee. This would not be a deal-breaker for me.

Really? That's weird. On our cruise last month on the Dream, I heard someone ask the CM who was greeting everyone as they entered the theatre if it was okay to bring in snacks and drinks, and the response was a very enthusiastic "Yes, of course!" This same CM was very strictly enforcing the no photos/video policy (totally understandable) all during the show though, so I don't think it could have just been that she was lax on rules.

Do you mean the main theater or movie theater?
