NBA Experience Coming to DTD (DS)

The NBA pregame show had a higher tv rating (4.6) than the NHL Stanley Cup Final game 1 (4.2). The NBA game had a rating over 3x the size of the NHL game (12.9). THAT is why ESPN covers the NHL, NBA, & MLB... mostly in that order.

The nhl will never draw as much as the NBA and the reasons are well documented...

It's a Canadian based/ cold weather sport and in the us only those with incredible financial means can play it. It's trapped in the suburbs and that's not how to create mass fanbases.

Basketball on the other hand - is easily accessible.

What's the worlds most popular sport? Soccer... What do you need to play soccer? A ball.

Am I saying its about money? Yeah...like everything else... It's about money.

Nascar is more popular than most sports and the restaurant based on that is gone too now. This doesn't look too promising IMO.

NASCAR seems to be on the decline in popularity tho. I'm a fan but not all the races are filled like they used to be.

Is the decline really big? It seems that most sports are having issues but I blame ridiculous pricing. Maybe Disney should take note. :)

It's not huge but the attendance decease is noticeable at certain races. Here in Milwaukee we couldn't sustain a nascar event and now only get Indy. It's really a shame but I can say I was at the last nascar race in Milwaukee if it doesn't ever come back.

Universal isn't renewing lease for the NBA restaurant. The restaurant us expected to close by August.

Articos another great source says this will be indeed in west side but not necessarily in DQ.

But he didn't rule it out either. So if it's going in the West Side it would have to either be DQ or a new building.

But where would they put it? I know DTD is a far different layout from when I went a few years back but regardless I can't think of a place to fit a building of that size

West side has an expansion plot next to house of blues. They could also go into west side parking.
The parking lot was my first thought but didn't know about the pad. Honestly I see credence in it moving into Disney quest because I can't see it being viable anymore. On my last DTD visit they are offering half off prices after 5 pm

They give a lot of discounts to DQ these days

While I would be sad to see DQ go, something needs to be done to it. It either needs to be massively updated or be put out of its misery. I remember going in 2000 after my freshman year of college with my 3 roommates -- all of us huge video game fans. We went there just about every night after the parks closed and had a blast. I've been back there a few more times since then, most recently probably in 2009...and it was pretty much the same experience, except half the stuff was either out of order or not working -- and now 10-15 years out of date.

Its such a headache for the TDO. don't wanna pay to upgrade it, but need to attract people to make it viable. That's why this seems to be the easy out (although a potentially similar flop if it plays out the way a lot of us here think it will)

If this replaces Disneyquest, I can see many people (myself included) not upgrading to the water park and more option..i will pass on the option and just get a one day pass to Volcano Bay..-$400 for Disney

I can definitely see where it loses its value but I argue that the majority of people buy that for the water park option far more than disneyquest. Obviously I don't have the solid numbers but I feel that to the mainstream tourist/first timer DQ is far off their radar

There is no doubt the majority buy for the water parks, however with a brand spanking new one opening right down the street i feel a lot of people would now pass on the $100 per person upcharge

If this does replace DQ, based on the concept art for Disney Springs, will there be anything to DO in this area. I don't mean shop or dine. I'm referring to being entertained.
