NBA Experience Coming to DTD (DS)

Now we see why the NBA City restaurant at Universal is rumored to be closing.

I'm guessing Disney is getting a much more friendly deal from the NBA due to the ABC and ESPN contracts that they currently have. TV rights to the NBA come up during next off-season as well, so there's probably a lot of interesting stuff at play here in terms of Disney trying to make sure they stay in bed with the NBA.

I was hoping that Disney would walk away from the NBA...

The league is awful and their coverage of it is worse.

I guess farewell disneyquest...epic fail on what was originally a good premise

I agree with everything here.

Agreed. The NBA has become an awful product to watch. And ESPN has become little more than just the PR wing of the NBA. A month from now, even after the NBA season is over, the lead story on Sportscenter will be what LeBron had for lunch that day.

Espn is 90% the NBA and NFL...the two things that are 1000% over saturated.

It's basically a network whose target demographic is the unemployed and those in the process of flunking out of college.

They're also two huge money makers.

Huge TV revenues, and TV deal for the NBA next year.

I'm employed, graduated college, and watch the NFL and the NBA.

I said "target audience"...not only audience.

See...you stepped on a landmine

Personally, i have no issue with NBA going into Disney Quest. Hope its open by the time i go in September 2016

I feel like a better target customer would be the NFL or MLB. since the former is absurdly popular and the latter still has a hefty following. Agree the NBA is a joke of a league right now

And they deliberately skirt coverage of the NHL because they don't cover their games. Need I say more about the ' worldwide leader in sports'

Not sure any of the major leagues of sports is necessarily going to be a wildly popular theme as a restaurant or retail store, but I do think basketball may offer better options for an interactive experience. I think more people will take a shot at shooting a basketball -- actual or those pop-a-shot arcade games -- than will try throwing footballs or baseballs, or slapping a puck.

Not suggesting it's indicative of what the interactive experience will consist of, or that the NBA Experience will be successful, but to my point above about people "taking a shot", a free throw contest in Atlantic City earlier this year proved pretty popular.

Is it replacing Disney Quest? I have heard people saying that, but I have not seen the location in any print release.

No official word...

But Disney quest has been on the chopping block for at least 10 years...

It hasn't been that successful and costs alot to run...if they can close it and partner up...they're gonna do it.

It's a rumor at this point. Based on released concept art for Disney springs no building looks big enough to hold a space like this other than Disney quest. NBA experience is supposed to be three times the size of NBA city. NBA city is roughly 16,000 square feet. Disney quest is roughly 19,000 but has three floors...
