NBA at Walt Disney World

Just curious how many of you are not showing up at work tomorrow?

The answer none of you. They broke the contract they have with the nba. I wish we could really discuss this issue without having to be politically correct. So much I would love to say... But we're not allowed. I'll end with this

I wonder if it will rain tomorrow?
This is not the thread to get into that discussion.

The NBA wisely supports its players. The NBA wouldn’t exist.

Expect the protests in sports to continue as the majority of pro athletes are minorities. And good for them for using their platforms to speak out against injustices.

Here's the thing....if it's one day, okay.

But, I am hearing/reading that this thing may not be resolved tomorrow or even the day after that. How long is Disney going to allow the NBA to delay resumption of this thing? Is Disney just supposed to be held hostage and extend the playoffs indefinitely? Disney has workers and money and guests and a lot of things on hold until the NBA is done.

It's not just about them.

This happened literally 2 hours ago.

Players have a meeting tonight.

For Disney, it’s just business. Whether their NBA guests play ball or sit in their rooms until their check out day it’s not Disney’s call. Now if the NBA wants it longer than that they’ll have to pay up if Disney is willing to negotiate with them (personally I suspect Disney would seeing as people aren’t pounding down the doors to the Kingdom for a hotel room these days).

If they players decide this is it and call it quits? now that’s an interesting scenario... I’m sure Disney has in their contract they will still be paid in full if the NBA chooses to leave for something not COVID related.

Yup. They need the money coming in from the NBA. They may not have opened up as early as they did without the guarantee of that money, and we’re seeing from the crowds at the parks that that money is dire for Disney.

There were talks (from Kyrie) about even going through with the season in the first place, so I’m sure Disney has it in their contract that they’d have to play the money regardless. Turner Sports is also dependent on that ad revenue

Nobody is being held hostage. Once they decide when games will resume (if they resume) they'll rework the schedule and work with disney on that.

It’ll be okay. I promise you Disney has been “in the loop” at every step of this bubble league from the initial negotiations to this very moment. There’s a meeting tonight, so I’m sure Disney will likely have a firm idea of what’s going to happen/what’s going to be asked of them tonight.

DIsney has plenty of unused resort rooms right now so I'm sure they could accomodate an extension if needed though yes it would likely come with a price tag attached. Really though TV schedules might be a bigger issue then resort extensions. They often plan on certain games on certain days to get the most viewers.

ESPN/ABC gets Wed/Fri/Sat/Sun TNT gets Mon/Tue/Thur.

but it’s also planned out that LeBron is on Saturday night, at least during the opening round.

So, yes, its planned out. The NBA is always very meticulous with their playoff scheduling.

Maybe Disney vacations aren’t the focus right now?

In normal times I think Disney would be annoyed but if this means they have 400 Hotel rooms filled for an extra week do you really think they’ll complain?

I care about black lives.

If I thought not showing up to work tomorrow would make all those people who don't care about black lives suddenly give it enough thought to care, I would stay home, sit out, and accept the consequences. For too many in this country, the only way they will care about inequality is if their own quality of life is impacted. For many of those people, not being able to watch their favorite sport is a travesty. And maybe in their reaction to that, they will be forced to acknowledge that what happens to black men in this country is a true travesty.

So yes, if I were them, I would not show up to work tomorrow. Especially if I were a black male, whose job was to entertain people who could not care less about the plight of black males in this country.

I think it's really great that the NBA is so supportive of their players and that a lot of the teams have gotten together with their players to work on messaging and community outreach in their home markets for this movement. That's something I wouldn't have known if I hadn't started watching bubble vlogs because I live in DC and I just can't with the Wizards lol.

Lol. But who really cares what they do. I only found out because they made a statement during the Yankees game. Here's something and keep this in mind...no one cares about the nba... I wonder if MLB nfl and college sports shut down immediately if that would kick up interest...the answer no.
Yet here you are talking about it :scratchin
