Does anyone have any opinons about the Navigators verandah over the regular verandahs? We have one booked for our next cruise and were curious what to expect.
Thanks!::MinnieMo

I have had both. I personally love the navigator's verandah over the regular one, as you have a little bit more privacy. Also, there's a pretty cushy bench, too. If it rains, the rain will not hit you full force like a regular verandah, and the wind is not nearly as strong.

If you go to Barb's site at www.castawayclub.com, she explains (and shows pics) of the different kind of verandahs.

Hope this helps! :)

We've had both and prefer the Navigator veranda as well. Some people don't like it because it has a solid bottom and they can't see out while sitting down. I've found that while that is true for looking down at the water close to the ship you can certainly see further out.

The other difference is that while the regular verandas have two chairs and a table the navigator's have one wood chair with a padded seat, a small wood table and a padded bench along one wall. This is a great place to stretch out with a book.

The navigators only sleep 3 which is a problem for some as well. Some of the benefits: real close to the buffet (real easy to go up and grab some food and come back and eat it on the veranda), also you get to do the mandatory drill in Animator's Palette sitting down instead up standing up on deck in the sun!

What we didn't like was the fact that Michael couldn't see through the wood - no x-ray vision on my Superman! So we would have to hold him to see the water. He is 8 now and about 48 inches and we are very glad to have gone to the regular verandah that is plexiglass so not only can he see through the barrier, but when we sit down to read we can also see the water.

One great thing that came from the cruise that DH and I had the flu - was that we could lie in bed or sit on the couch and still have a great view. Room service on the verandah at sunset was pretty nice!!!!!!!

I have always wondered about the navigator verandahs....is their any windows or vents that open and allow for fresh air to come in? Or is it more like a small sun porch with a big window. I think I would want a breeze or have some feeling that we are on a verandah. I have looked at the pictures posted on some sites and I can't tell.

The port hole that you see on the pictures is open. We really like the Navigator Verandahs but are opting for one of the reclassified ones for our next two DCL cruises! Oh and the comment about the rain coming in is only true if it is not a driving rain in your direction :p

We had rain on a couple occasions that drove us back in the cabin.

Also less wind on the Navigators Verandahs.
