Ok I can book on Thurs. so I need to get my "ducks in a row". The DVC cash price for one adult is about 100 less for a cat.7 verses a 6. The points are only like a 14 point difference. So my question is for those who have had both is the navigators as good? I truely have the feeling I won't like it, I spend a great deal of time on our veranda and love the open feel, so is there a compelling reason to go for the navigators beside 100 dollars ?(which is not that much but a few konk coolers :) )

My understanding is that the Navigator's Veranda is more enclosed -- so a smaller child would not be able to see out unless s/he were held up or stood on a chair.

But I haven't been on the ship yet. We have a veranda with the clear plexiglass, so our DS6 will be able to see without climbing up on something.

Have fun!

We had a navigator's verandah on our first cruise, and have opted for the open verandah on all the others. Mainly because you can see through the glass (it makes the room look bigger PLUS our son doesn't have to stand and be held to see the water).

Enjoy your vacation!

Oohh, Konk Koolers.. I'll be enjoying one soon enough!

We've done both - The difference between the two is the part below the railing is enclosed, but you really couldn't see that clearly thru the plexiglass anyhow, especially once the ship was under sail. As far as the upper part- we really didn't lose that open to the ocean feel from there being actual sides. The big difference comes from there being a permanent, comfy padded bench on one side and a much nicer wooden chair with a pad on the other, versus the two patio chairs. It definitely gives it a more cosier feel, with all the woodwork used.

I think they're in the pictures from our last cruise - Cruise pics

edit - I stand corrected, I had forgotten the fact the Magic's are smaller.

Ann, I looked at Barb's pics and it looks like the opening on the Navigator's Verandah on the Magic is a smaller and rounder window than the one on the Wonder. It IS cozy looking but I kind of think if you want the real ocean feel you may be disappointed with the Nav. Verandah on the Magic.

Michelle, you are correct. The Magic's openings are smaller. Also, on both ships the furniture was fixed in place and could not be moved.
We were in a nav. verandah room once, and I really liked it. But I like being aft, and I also like the solid metal verandahs, so it's probably just my somewhat-strange personal taste. If you prefer a "regular" verandah at a nav price, request one of the partially obstructed Cat. 7 staterooms. I have photos of them on my website so you can see what I mean...it's kind of hard to explain.

Ann actually wants one of those four reclassed Cat. 6s but three of them have already been snatched up by a few DIS mods (me included!) :smooth:, and the fourth someone else dared to book already. ;)

Good luck deciding, Ann! :)

Michelle
Forgive my ignorance but what is a "reclassed" Cat 6? We get Cat 6 verandah's aft so educate me, please!!
Thanks in advance!

There are four rooms with a standard verandah where the view is slightly obstructed by the structure of the ship. Since these verandahs don't have as full a view as other similar staterooms, they have been classified as Category 7 (lower price than standard verandah rooms). These rooms are 6134 and 6634 (former Category 6's) and 7120 and 7620 (former Category 5's). These are a great deal if you'd like a full verandah with only a slight obstruction. If you want a true Navigator's Verandah, make sure you do not get assigned to one of these rooms.

I have some info about these four staterooms at my web site...

Barb and Tony also have photos at their web site...

yeah Michelle if you and Alex were truely dedicated moderaters you would give up your re-classed for me. I expect very loud singing for my birthday this year! (although technically we don't sail until the day after it)
Jay took one look at the photos and said "no way -get the regular veranda you will be complaining the whole trip" Is he insinuating that I am a complainer? Oh well...come thursday I will book the cat. 6.

(maybe his generosity comes from that he gets to pick up his new car on Tuesday-if he acted cheep I could change my mind ;))
