I have not read much feedback lately regarding the navigator app. I and others are curious if it is working well. I especially would like to know in regards to the classic ships. We are cruising the Wonder this Feb.12. Any recent cruisers we would appreciate some reports on the navigator app.

I had a problem with the app on the Fantasy this past May. I am not sure if it was just me, but I wanted to red-flag it just in case:

The app, on more than one occasion, would lose its connection between my iPhone 6 and my 13-y.o. son's iPhone 6. The problem was you couldn't tell it had happened. I would text my son and not hear back from him for hours. That's not like him, so I was concerned. Once I found him, we took a look at his phone and saw that my message never reached him. However, there was nothing on my phone to indicate that my message wasn't received, either.

So I thought my message went through, but it didn't. He had no idea I was trying to reach him and thus didn't reply. That was a problem. Once we killed and restarted the app on both phones, things worked again. However, this problem reoccurred several times.

From our experience on Dream, this is totally normal for it. You have to be aware that you'll have to turn on the phone and open the app completely, to manually check for texts. From our experience, there's nothing automatic about it.

No, what I am saying is that my son was checking the app, but my messages were not there for him to see. The first couple of days, the app worked flawlessly, but on Day 3, we started having these problems.

I was on the Wonder with an early version of the app last August before the messaging feature was introduced. Just wanted to say it does work on my Blackberry Q10 w/ Snap. The soft-copy of the Navigator was great to plan the day. The only feature that failed was the deck maps.

IMG_3714.PNG I used it a lot it worked fine for the Navigator and menus and activities and also for keeping in touch though messages fell off overnight.

Just wife and I cruising on the Dream in 4 weeks. Won't need texting but hope there is allot of helpful and useful information available. I assume the app does not work on CC?

So pre load the App before you cruise.

Then on the ship on the app top right you will see a chat icon.

Click that.

Now each cruiser has a number allocated.

Everyone in your stateroom should be listed.

To message anyone else you need that personas number.

We last sailed in Feb. on the Fantasy and did some last minute cabin changes and the chat part of the app didn't work for our party. We were told that the app has a defect that it couldn't handle last minute cabin changes. It did work for members of our party that didn't do any cabin changes. I'm not sure if they've fixed this glitch.

Does anyone know if the signal from the ship is strong enough when the ship is docked in Port Canaveral..to start setting everything up while you are sitting and waiting to board? I'm guessing you have to put everyone's number into your app and associate a name with it, etc. Thought testing out and setting things up in the app would be a good use of time.

It should be, I did a lot in the Barcelona terminal pre cruise.

We used it on our iPads recently and loved it. Just a short learning curve, and it really worked well. Easy to search, to find schedules, LOTS of information, and I really liked being able to favorite an activity to make it easy to find later on my favorites list.

And, there was a super friendly and well qualified advisor available to salk to anyone about using their electronics on the ships. He was especially helpful to folks who wanted to make sure they didn't incur any expenses from their carrier, yet wanted to use the onboard wifi package. He also knew the Disney ship app through and through.

We did not carry our navigators with us, as everything we wanted to know was in the app.

p.s. the chat/message capability was just ok. Not that much fun having to keep starting it up and checking it. Other than that, 5 stars.

DS's phone (fauxn is what I call it) doesn't have a SIM and only gets wifi. He was able to download the app while in our room waiting for sail away.

I had thought we used cell time for that (we are from the U.S. and we were still in FL while docked at PC) but that couldn't have been so, since DS's device doesn't get cell.

Anyway, last minute DS and DH downloaded and launched the app to their samsungs. Easy.

I understood it did and also the wave phones do as well.

Waves, yes. Assuming one can remember/figure out how to use them. I couldn't even make a call on them in January! (I have successfully called and texted with them before)

Maybe they've opened the free wifi up on the island since Jan but since the app started there's only been that one weird time (October last year) when it got through to DH who was on the ship. And I was told onboard in jan that it doesn't work on island.

We only used it a little bit for texting with some friends who we were cruising with. But I loved the rest of the app. I would usually check out the menus before dinner so I could decide how much of a snack I wanted in the late afternoon. I marked a number of activities. Some we went to, others we didn't but it was always nice to know what was coming up. We barely looked at the printed version and never carried it with us. We always carry our iPhones or iPads because we want the camera and usually spend some time in the day reading on our iPads. Note that it doesn't synchronize between multiple devices so if you can text someone on your phone you can't do that on your tablet unless you also enter their code and you have to mark your favourite activities on both. I imagine that this might be coming later. I also suggested on the comment card that they consider not only adding that functionality but the ability to input your excursion times so you can more easily determine if other activities are conflicting in time. However, overall, I thought it was a great app and I can't wait to see what more they add in terms of functionality.
