We have young kids and don't want to do the what seems to be mad dash rope drop :)

If we arrive 20-30min into the EMH, will we be facing a huge wait for Navi River? Or should it be less than 30min?

Wondering from those with experience. Thanks in advance =)

Bumping this up because i have the same question!

Majority of guests doing emh will be heading to Pandora and the general consensus is that if you won't be arriving prior to the start of emh then you should avoid it.

If you're not showing up until halfway through emh has been going on then I'd anticipate more than a 30 min wait

Thanks for your response! So in your opinion, if we get to AK at opening (8 am in our case), would we still be looking at over 1/2 hour wait for Navi or would it possibly be a little less since most are heading to FoP?

On our second EMH day last week we happened to be a little farther back than we were the first day (and strangely enough, they didn't hold the crowds at ANY point when the let everybody in around 7:30ish) and we had to wait about 10-15 min for FoP.....so by the time we go off FoP, it was a bit into EMH (maybe 8:15 or so?) and we walked over to NRJ....we had ridden it 2x already, but we were there, so we said why not.....and the line was already listed at 30 min and we could SEE the line being fuller than it was when we rode it before....so we said no thanks and went to the safari.....I would say still show up before they open the gates, but no reason to rush to squish your way to the front, just take your time strolling....

When the first people get off FoP, many of them go to NRJ, as its right there and many people haven't experienced it yet.....so it catches all the FoP riders AND the ones that are turned off from the gargantuan line when they arrive in Pandora for FoP....

Just back from WDW. Our Animal Kingdom day was NOT an EMH day, so this won't fully answer your question but may help. We arrived to park at 8:45am for a 9am open and they had just started letting people enter the park. There were long lines for bag checks and took nearly 10 minutes to get through. Touring Plans recorded crowd level was 5 out of 10. We went straight toward Na'vi River and entered the line right at 9:02am. The posted wait was 20 minutes, but we only waited 10-15 minutes. By the time we exited Na'vi at 9:20am, the wait was at 45 minutes. We then went over to use FP to ride FOP. Exited FOP around 10am and the wait for Na'vi was up to 60 and continued to increase.

That said, it was NOT a mad rush when we arrived. People were walking briskly, but it was calm and orderly. Nothing stressful at all about our arrival time to the park. It's definitely worth being at the park entrance 15 minute prior to open! We also took a taxi from Poly to AK for this day and the taxi drop off is directly in front of the park entrance. That helped keep our stress down.

Thanks for your experience! It sounds like we will plan to arrive earlier than 8 to have less of a wait then.

Earlier in Oct we arrived on a non EMH morning about 15 minutes after scheduled park opening.
The posted wait for River was 30 minutes, so we decided to go ahead and wait in line. It took us 28 to get on the boat.

When we left, the wait had gone to 50.

I'd do the earlier the better theory, but it doesn't need to be something crazy.

We were there on a non-EMH day on Thursday and got there around 8:45 (opening at 9:00). People weren't running, but they were "walking with passion" toward Pandora. We got into line for FOP at 8:55 and there was a 90 minute wait. It looked like NRJ was close to an hour. It grew significantly 15-20minutes after that with FOP being at 2:30 by then. For the rest of the day, the two had similar wait times of almost 3 hours each. I would get there as early as possible, because I personally don't think NRJ is worth more than about 30 minutes of waiting. It would have been a let down if we waited two hours instead of doing FP+ like we did. FOP was totally worth the 90 minutes we waited though. We considered doing that again.
