Does anyone have any natural remedies for headaches that work well for you? I'm taking a medication right now for knee pain that is giving me a really bad headache, but I can't take any ibuprofen, aleve, or aspirin while on this medicine, only tylenol, which does nothing for my headaches.

What works best for me is to massage a pressure point on my hands. It is the area of skin between your thumb and pointer finger. Put the area about 1 in. down between the opposite thumb and pointer finger and massage it for a minute or two. You have to do it fairly hard for it to work. You can do it on either hand. This is what I do 95% of the time if I feel a headache coming on or if I have a bad one already. It may take 10 minutes or so but it usually gets rid of the headache or makes it so minimal that it is bearable.

Hopefully I explained it clearly enough and more importantly, hopefully it works for you.

I have used that trigger point too.
But the concern is if you are taking a bextra celebrex or other medication for the knee and it is triggering a heading it may be putting pressure on the head vascular.

I would switch the knee med to an Advil liguid gel. or 1 darvocet if that does not work. I have used this safely for 11 years for severe knee degeneration.
There are triptilines for migrain triggers but watch for chest pain side effects if ever given. Bad side effect.

Now have you tried the Tylenol extra liquid, cherry crush for Adults? I had a headache last week and not Adviil liquid gel caps, so I took the liq tylenol, I use an ice pack on the back of my neck and sides of the head. Sat in the recliner, no noise, draw the curtains and relax.

Look up side effects to the med you are taking and see what suggestions they give for these effects. If the headache gets worse stop taking it, there is something going on funky.
Remember the people having heart related problems from the celebrex bextra ordeal.

Thanks for the advice. Neither of the two doctors I'm seeing know what's causing my knee pain, so they just keep trying series of different medications to see if one will work. I want to at least give this a couple days, to see if it makes a difference with the pain because if it does that could help with a diagnosis. After that though, I think I'm going to stop if these headaches continue until I talk to the doctor.

My-Grastick - you can buy it at the health food stores. It's peppermint and lavendar oil that you put on your forhead. It doesn't work all the time but it does work and might be worth a shot for you.

If I were taking a medicine for pain that was causing more pain...I'd stop the medication.

If I get a headache that's bad enough for me to want to mess with it, I turn to homeopathics. I have two books that list many remedies and the symptoms that indicate the need for each, then I hope I have that remedy on hand!

I had a nasty nasty nasty headache for a few days last week (hubby, who had migraines from childhood until he got under regular chiropractic care, wanted to label it a migraine), and I used a homeopathic remedy to get it under the "cut off my head to stop it" feeling, so I could deal with it. Took a few days to get through it (and the good news is that coffee tasted horrid to me during the headache, so I switched over to tea during the headache, which is what I wanted to do anyway. Lowering the caffeine would have given me a headache, so I figured I'd just do both at the same time, LOL). I like homeopathics.

I get occasional migraines and have tried the pressure point therapy, etc. I don't usually eat alot of sugar but sometimes a can of Coke (with caffeine and sugar) will help. Especially if the migraine is so bad that I cannot tolerate coffee. My DH says eating a banana helps him when he has a headache...but that would definitely make me gag if I had a migraine. My daughter uses an icepack but I cannot imagine doing that.

Simple remedy - plain water. It rehydrates the brain and alleviates stress on the tissue.

Try scalp massage. I get migraines every month & have taught my DS9 to give me scalp massage -and it works. Start with circles at the base of your neck & go upwards, all the way over the top of your head to your forehead, then down the sides. Also pepermint oils or candles, as mentioned here before. I'll have to try that pressure point suggestion!

Vinegar and water on a washcloth then put over your eyes while lying down. I tried it once from the advice of my MIL. It actually worked.
