Nationwide are now charging £1 plus the 1% for for transactions aboard for those who have this card, us have post-office and still free and full rate DW was in nationwide today and heard a member of staff talking about this

I believe the £1 fee is just for cash withdrawls and not card purchases but does apply to internet and phone purchases abroad. (unlike Halifax that £1.50 on every transaction)

Thats how I read it anyway, getting more complicated than ever. Glad I use PO card with no fees.

We are going in October and thought that we would be enjoying our last trip with Nationwide and not paying any fees.

I believe it applies to debit card not credit card and the rate changes on 1 November, I remember because that's the day we come home! Current account holders should have received a leaflet in the post.
