We were in WDW when the attack happened and were scheduled to fly home on Wed. After consideration on Wed weather we were actually going to be able to get home by plane. We decided to drive back to Philly. National toold us to just take the car and turn it in at any National counter we wanted to. We picke PHL because our car was still parked there after taking off to head to Orlando. Other than having to have the rate adjusted because the check in computere (the hand held type) still included the drop off charge everything was smooth as silk.

Thank you NATIONAL for making this frustrating end to our great vacation a little bit easier to do.

ZW, that's great that National was accomodating to the unexpected change in plans. How long did it take you to drive to PA? Just Curious, what happens to the second half of your airline ticket, can you get a voucher? Thank goodness you're all home safely! :)

I think that IS great!! I'm very glad you were able to make it home! How was the drive home from Orlando?

Are you saying that National let you drive back to PHL and didn't charge you a one-way fee?

The drive back to philly took us about 16-17 hours. A shorter time then most people because yes the speed at which most of the traffic was traveling was a bit above the speed limit and we kept up with traffic. It wasn't to bad a drive accept that that we were one of the first cars to arrive at a horiffic accident south of Florance, SC and we were driving a two door coupe. Which I rented because it was just the DH and I and what fun not to drive a mini van around town. Well, if I had know that I would be driving the car home I would have chosen a full size car off the Aisle not a coupe. It wasn't to bad all and all.

Yes, National waived all the additional fees associated with a one way rental. When we checked in at PHL National Counter the reciept they had given me a car turn in was quite a bit higher than my quote. The agent at the counter went to work to try to get my original rate that I had on my email reciept. He got within $8.00 and I said great job and paid the extra few dollars.

The airline tickets sound like it might take a little bit of letters and conversation to get a solution that will be acceptable to me. US air said because they were Frequent Flyer points on AA and that I had purchased the tickets in April I would have until April 30 to reuse each of the 2 half tickets by then. Well, I think I didn't fly because I didn't want to I just would have gotten home until at the earliest Sunday in my estimation. My kids wouldn't have survived if we had waited until there was a flight out. I'm hoping that the will agree that the two half tickets could be combined to be one ticket or I could get my frequent flyer points back. Or a longer time to use the tickets.

All in all I think the situation was handled wonderfully by all the companies that I had to deal with during this time of National tragedy.

GOD BLESS US ALL!!!!!

Thanks for the update :). It sounds like National really did come through for you. I hope that US Air and/or AA come through for you too.
