The American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists is hosting its 2nd
ACVO National Service Dog Eye Exam Day, May 4-8, 2009. In 2008 the event
provided free eye screening examinations to over 1,500 Service Dogs.
Please pass on the word to qualified candidates to help us meet our goal
of examining 5,000 dogs in 2009.
Veterinary ophthalmologists across the US and Canada will be
participating in the program. Dogs that qualify include: handicapped
assistance dogs, detection dogs, police dogs, search and rescue dogs,
and therapy dogs that are Delta Society certified. Dogs must be active
'working dogs' that were certified by a formal training program or
organization or currently enrolled in a formal training program.
Registration for the event will commence on April 1, 2009.

I signed Skye up for this last year but the closest veterinarian that could examine her was an hour away, so we weren't able to take advantage of the offer. I'm hoping to be able to get an appointment though this year since we've moved. Thanks for posting- I hadn't gotten the info yet from IAADP.---Kathy

Thanks for the information.
This sounds like a really great service.

I did this last year. It didn't seem like they did anything more than my vet does, but it was free, so I can't complain. :)

Last year they did a blood wellness test with a certain company that gives online results. I'm glad to see they aren't offering this again, as it was not only pointless (the Web site with the vague questions you answer to read what a dog owner should already know), but cost me a good chunk of money when they in error said my dog had crazy-high thyroid levels! (The chunk of money was to get her tested by Dr. Dodds - her tests came out just fine, no thyroid issues. Phew! But I'm not happy I had to do that thanks to the bad free test.)
