We are a couple weeks out from our first time renting from National and I'm pretty sure I saw something a while back saying that, as a first time renter, you can't pass the counter and go straight back to the aisle because they have to confirm the credit card. Does this sound right?

If you are an Emerald Club member your credit card information should already be on file with National. When you made the reservation did your confirmation state for you to "Proceed to the Counter" or "Proceed to the Emerald Isle"?

I rented from them for the first time last December and did not have to go to the counter. We picked out the car we wanted, stopped at the booth on the way out of the garage, showed my Drivers License and credit card to the attendant and we were on our way.

Yeah, the confirmation says to go to the emerald aisle to pick up the car. I got it in my head somewhere along the line that I was going to have to hit the counter just this first time, but then I couldn't confirm that. I'll just go to the aisle, thanks!

I think that once they figured out how to have us fill everything out ahead of time they stopped requiring that.
