National rates up

I have been watching the rates for a rental from National for a while now. I did my regular check this morning and what do I see, the rates are higher than they were yesterday. I never pay more than $150 for a week and our trip this year will be for 2 weeks so I expect to pay more than usual, but this is outrageous $478.

I booked for my mid-August trip last week and the rates are now higher. I ended up with mid-size SUV for $250 after taxes for 10 days. I'm happy with that, but will be willing to adjust if a downward trend begins!

It's killing me too. I am trying to remain calm because even Dollar's rates went up. So being the dummy that I can sometimes be I never made a reservation and will be at the computer faithfully waiting for these prices to begin their downward trend.

You should make a reservation now. It doesn't cost you anything and rates may go up even more! What are your dates?

I was thinking the same thing. But, my dates are August 23rd with an early pick up, September 6th late drop off. So I also get that extra day tagged on.

Thanks soo much Connie. This is driving me absolutely nuts. I am getting ready to search Alamo too. I just really like the convience of National.

Alamo might be worth looking at as well. We are going to WDW for 2 weeks (Aug 25-Sept 8) and the best National rate I've seen is $394.95.
At Alamo I booked an intermediate SUV for $199 week (368.53 total for 2 weeks with the costco codes). Not the best rate, but good enough for now. I'm sure they will fall at National 5 or 6 weeks out.

The rates are so unpredictable. On the weekend I was looking at over $300 for our week at Disneyland in June. Today it was down to $118.09, using emerald club code 5007125 and $40 off coupon ND1833JJF. I'll take it!

This is our third end of August trip. The good codes and rate drops usually come out I think in July. I just got email codes for the end of June. The past 2 August, I have paid just over 200.00 for a full size rental for 12 days.

I now have a SUV booked for 300.00. I am hoping that they will come down as they have in the past. Just keep hanging in there and checking those prices.

Everyone, keep posting what you get with what codes!! That is what helped me last year!

You're keeping a car for 15 days ... that's always expensive!

Thrifty comes up at $131 per week before taxes for an Intermediate which is not that bad. I like Thrifty and the shuttle is not all that bad either. If you use the code "SAMS" you can get a bit more off for a total of $353 with taxes. A Full Size will cost you about $50 more.
