How many of you have been asked your opinion on a national poll?

If you have where were you, did they call your home, what?

I have never been asked so I always wonder where they come up with the totals.

I only participate in polls on the DIS.

Yeah, ditto. It's odd, but I've never been asked, nor has anyone I know - as far as I know.

I think the 14 percent who said yes to this poll are Democrats.

I honestly am afraid that people will lie to make the polls that are going on now look...I dont know what word to use accurate?

It's not just who they call (for example, if I want a certain response, I can either call Massachusetts or South Carolina), but the questions they ask as well.
I think we had a good example of this here on these boards. Somebody asked, "Is Bush the worst president ever" and the choices were:
1) Yes
2) He's the best president ever
3) It doesn't matter to me (or something like that)
4) I don't know.

So your choices are to either say that you think he is the worst president ever, or you think he is better than any other president in the history of the US, or that you couldn't care less about your country, or that you are just plain ignorant. Come, on where's the fairness in that kind of poll. What about, No, I don't think he's the worse president ever.

Most of these so called political polls are worded to get an overwhelming response in one direction. Another examle of today's polls.

Are you for our soldiers dying in Iraq?
No, I'm against the War
Yes, the War is a good thing.

Guess what, 85% of the people polled don't want our soldiers dying in Iraq. Of course not (who in their right mind does), but of that 85%, if you were to ask them, do you think it is important to do whatever it takes (including going to war) to prevent another 9/11, most of those same 85% would say yes.

My wife did market research for a company that did polls for two major newspapers in the area.

If they didn't get the numbers they needed to finish the job, they made the rest up. That was on the management end.

Then in the trenches, the callers were supposed to get a certain number of completes an hour. If they didn't get them, they would make up results too. I'm sure this is just stuff that went on at my wife's company and is an isolated incident and would in no way explain why two polls taken at exactly the same time can have results that differ as much as 20 points at times.

I haven't been called regarding tomorrows election, but we have received phone polls in the past, here in the evening at home.

Never been asked. Surveys, yes. Political Polls, nope. Maybe they're afraid. :teeth:

I'm a registered Republican, which pretty much assures that I won't be getting any calls any time soon.
