National Minivan during holidays

Last year I started looking for a minivan with National for NYE week starting in April. With DC 20% discount the price was always over $500. In 2001 I paid about $300. I am now looking for Christmas week this year and the best rates are around $550. Did anyone have any better luck wiht National last year or this year for the holidays? Last year I ended up with Dollar.
