National Marathon and Half Marathon

I just got the post race survey and this jumped out at me:

Three areas we would like to acknowledge we will pledge to work on improving going forward are as follows:
1. Race Morning Transportation & Parking- We will work hard with both transit & RFK Stadium representatives to ensure that there is a better plan in getting to start line and ensure it is as smooth possible for both race participants and spectators.

2. Packet Pick Up - Our goal is for each of you to have a memorable, fun race packet pick up, not a timely one. As our race fields grow, we will put mechanisms in place to ensure that your time is well spent during this portion of the event.

3. Course Mile Marking - The race experienced a significant vehicular delay in some of the mile markers being deployed due to a combination of equipment truck logistics and a public safety sweep of the course. This impacted a portion of the half marathon route. We will ensure this is addressed going forward and will not occur again.

So it does look like they are at least aware of the issues. I didn't have any problem at the packet pickup though (2:30-3:00 on Friday) so I guess there was a problem earlier in the morning.

They did manage to screw up the survey though. I'm not sure if everyone gets this or it is random but the options where you can select other make you select on of the given choices even if none of them are true.

Frank--I had problems at packet pickup. I arrived just before 11am, and waited in a long line outside of the armory, for about 25 minutes, before I could get in. The people in line with me were quite upset, so I'm guessing this is what they're talking about. People who tried to come on a lunch break were definitely not going to make it.

marathonmommy--your race report was great! I left a comment over there too. Where are you in DE? We have a house just north of Lewes, and I do the Seashore Striders races sometimes. The OC race is supposed to be SUPER flat--you'll do great!

Makes sense. We did have to wait in a short line to get in but that wasn't the packet pickup it was the security line. Seeing as they are holding the packet pickup in a military building I don't see a way around that. I was glad they didn't need to screen everyone on Saturday since the military portion of the facility wasn't opened.

That 25 minutes was for the security line. I think if the line had been short (5-10 minutes) people would have been okay. 25 minutes was an awfully long time. I also had problems inside picking up the relay packet, and the packet did not include everything I was expecting. It's good to hear the race officials are listening to the feedback.

I am in Lewes and do some of the Seashore Strider races as well. I'm all over a SUPER flat course! You will have to let me know when you are around...maybe we can meet up at a race!

I think my next striders race is going to be the Masser 5 Miler Memorial Day weekend at CHHS.
