just wondering if any of your schools have NHS and if they do are you in it?

I just got in yesterday after appeling because i didnt get in the first time

Wow, you get in just by applying? And by your countdown, i'm guessing you're a sophomore. We have NHS at my school, but it's run very differently. First you have to be nominated by one of your teachers in past years, and have a GPA higher than 3.4. Then you have to go through this whole candidacy period. We have to write an essay, do 4 hours of community service a month, and do this self-nomination/leadership packet. Not only that, but a committee reviews our essays, and we can be eliminated if they're not good enough. Plus they talk to our current and former teachers. Right now i'm a candidate for NHS. You can't be nominated for NHS until you're a junior, and you're inducted in the spring if you pass all of the requirements. Hopefully I'll be in it in the spring. :D

Congrats to you on making it in! :cheer2:

well we do have to have a GPA of either 3.4 or 3.0 to be able to fill out an application and then we have to also have some type of extra coriccular activity, leadership, community service, and i forget the last on and we have to have no more then 10 tardies and 14 absences (sp?) i think. And we have to write an essay

I was in NHS in high school. We just had to apply (if we had a minimum GPA of 3.4) that asked about academics, extra-curriculars, and service. Our leader accepted everyone who applied because she felt she didn't know everyone equally and didn't think it would be fair to not accept some people. We didn't have to write an essay. Once we got in we had to complete 25 hours of service.

I am only in JNHS and we have to have a 3.5. We can not be in NHS as a freshman, so I have a few years. We have to get nominated by teachers and have a 3.5 or higher. Then we have a big ceremony when you get in.

Basically the same as Disneymusicgirl said, except that at our school, you are inducted in the winter, and your GPA must be 3.5 (and mine's 3.4! arrgggghh).

I'm in NHS. At my school, if you have a GPA of 3.5 or higher at the end of your sophomore year, you're automatically sent an application. You have to have about 100 hours of community service and 2 leadership positions, and you have to write an essay. After being accepted, you must have at least 15 hours of community service each semester.

wwe have nhs in our school....all i know is that we have to have a 90 of above average for three/four semesters in the subject we want and then u get in....i am a freashman and i already have two down in french and math but i am not sure if they will let me in as a sophmore or as a junior becuase i would have all of the grades and stuff....wat would they do in ur school????...lyk cause i take classes with the sophmores now and will take classes with juniors next year....wat would be the outcome in ur school???

NHS in my school is only for seniors. You get nominated by your teachers during your junior year, and then at the end of junior year, they pick who gets in or not.
I'm not sure of the creditials to get in, but I know you have to have a high GPA, have done community service, and are active in the school.

I really hope i get nominated, because I have all those creditials, and it would look really good on college apps!

that's the way it is at my school. i'm a candidate right now, and hopefully i'll become a member in the spring.

wow I'm surprised how different is at every school. At my school you had to have a 3.5 or higher for 4 consecutive semesters (usually your frosh and soph years) and then as a junior you'd be inducted in. Then there was also the community service, etc. but no other things like nominations or essays.

I posted on this thread, but it only shows up on the reply page....hmmmm

In my school, juniors and seniors can be nominated/apply. If your GPA is 3.5 or higher, they'll send you an invitation (and mine's 3.4!). Then you have to fill out all this paper work about your activities and volunteer work and write an essay. A few of my friends got invitations and applied, and they'll find out in a few weeks if they made it or not at the induction ceremony. Hopefully I'll be able to pull up my GPA just a little bit this year to make it next year.

I'm in NHS at my school (I actually just got back from the national conference:D )
At my school, we're invited to apply if we have a 3.5 unweighted GPA (or higher), or a 9.0 weighted GPA. Both are about a B+ average. The invitation also only goes out to us if we've had no office detentions or suspensions. Then we have to go through the application process which includes essay writing, getting advisors/teachers/employers, etc to fill out recommendation forms for us, and telling all about our community service and extracurriculars. If we get in there's a big induction ceremony, and once we're in we have to do 3 hours of service per month (that can be a little tough).

does graduating with honors on your hs diploma mean that u r in it? i dont remember filling out paperwork. but i did go over it with a teacher once.
