Does anybody know whether you can take advantage of National rental car's Emerald Aisle service and put additional drivers on the car without having to go to the service counter and wait in line with people who are waiting for cars?

Also, does anyone know what the additional charge is (I can't imagine that there isn't one) to add another driver on the car?

TIA

If you are an Emerald Club member, I believe that additional drivers are free. I have read that folks just give the 2nd driver's license at the check out kiosk, but I've never done this myself.

With Emerald, only spouse is free. We did this last year, and we were told to wait in the regular line, which we did. The employee there told us we should not have waited, we could have done it as we checked out in the garage on the way out. (I forget what it was, $7 a day?) The 2nd driver was also Emerald, but we still had to pay.

This is a direct email response to that exact question that I got from National.
There is no additional charge for the people listed in the response below.

A person is considered an authorized driver if he/she has either of the
following relationships to the renter:

· A member of the Emerald Club renter's immediate family who permanently
resides with him/her (including common law marriages, married couples with
different last names, and same gender relationships).

· A business partner, employee or regular employee who drives the vehicle
for business purposes.

When arriving at the location they will advise you at the exit booth if
they
need information on her such as her drivers license.

If you need further assistance please contact us by email. Thank you for
choosing National Car Rental.

Thanks everyone for your very helpful responses. The second driver would be my wife. You've all saved me from having to stand in line at National during what will no doubt be a very busy week at MCO on the week before Easter.

We're planning on this next spring in San Francisco. 2 couples are going, so we're renting one car. DH and I are both Emerald Club members, but the other couple isn't..

It sounds like we can go to the EA and pick up our car and head to the booth, where they will ask for the other drivers license??? The charge per day will be added at that time??

My favorite part of EA is skipping the counter, this will be great if this works...too bad that Nationald didn't have a spot in their on-line ressie to add the additional driver info, so the price quote would be correct and all the driver's license info would just have to be verified at the booth, would really speed up the process..

Thanks!

There is no charge per day for extra drivers if you are an Emerald Club member and the second driver lives in the same residence with you. They told me that you would have to show license with same home address on it and the additional driver would be FREE.

The additional driver in our case will be the other couple, probably only one of them. That way we would have 3 out of the 4 of us could drive the car. It will help with splitting driving time, if they wanted to go somewhere that we didn't etc....

If they joined emerald aisle would we be charged the daily rate????

Im not sure about if they joined if they would be charged or not. I would call Emerald Club and ask questions. They were VERY helpful to me when I called with questions. Their number is 1-800-962-7070. Good luck :flower:

Go to Mousesavers and check out the National information .........I believe I saw that National is currently offering FREE membership in Emerald Aisle service......just passed over it briefly and didn't read the whole paragraph, but, it might be worth your while to check it out for the other couple to join.

Blessed is right. They are very helpful. I called last year to make sure my husband was added to our reservation. I was able to give them all his driving information over the phone. So, we were able to use Emerald Aisle as usual in December. We just picked out our car, drove up to the booth and after about 2 minutes we drove away. Very simple and easy.
