Here's the deal. I have two National reservations for my upcoming 9 day July trip. I can go EA for $243 or I can go to the counter and get a guaranteed min standard size for $246. There are three of us (DW DS[11] and myself). I am leaning towards the EA just for the convenience of bypassing the counter even though I have read that National is clamping down on choices of larger cars than intermeds. on EA now. I fear that we would get caught up in a long line at the counter to get our car if I choose the $3 more expensive larger car. We are arriving at Noon on July 3, BTW.

What would your advice be?

If you an Emerald Club member, you can use Emerald Reserve for the standard/full size and go straight out to the garage. No need to go to the counter.

I am using an upgrade coupon so I have to go to the counter for the standard size car. The EA car is a reg. ressie.

Pickings might be sparse around a holiday. If you can live with an intermediate then take your chances with EA but if you really want a full size, I would go to the counter. Why be unhappy for an entire vacation to avoid a few minutes in line. Can you and your wife split up to get the luggage and get the car?
