I JUST PICKED UP MY MINIVAN!!!! I used the codes and got the 2 car upgrade. Booked the reservation a couple of weeks ago. The guy at the National counter did ask for my coupon, which I had. Easy as that. Got my Uplander and we'll be on the road in the morning!!!! Yeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwww!!

Cool! I go in about a month and I can't wait! :cheer2:

Ok, can someone explain this to me like I'm a two year old. I did reserve a minivan with the codes, but i don't know exactly what each code is for (therefore I don't know what I need to bring to the rental) I am a AAA member. Does one code go with the UofW coupon (so I need to print out the coupon from page one?) and the other code is for AAA members? Also, people have beenn saying that they're getting LDW included. Is there a specific code for that? My ressie does say unlimited miles. Thanks in advance!

Fantastic. Did you have Emeral Reserve or just choose to go to the counter? My reservation says I can go directly to the lost and pick a minivan.

December is a long ways away! Rates should drop by then (you wont see much of a difference on a 1 day'er, maybe $4 or $5). Start checking National daily around the end of October...

Thanks, Disneyjosh229! Yeah, I'm one of those annoying people that likes to get everything squared away in advance :thumbsup2

I used the AAA code and the code given when I joined the Emerald Club, which saved us about $40 total. We also prepaid for the gas, which I don't expect us to use the whole tank, so we should see a credit there, as well.

Thanks again for the help...This will give me something to do come October

ETA: We are actually renting for two days - will that make a difference?

Has anyone else had recent experience picking up a car at National using coupon 10009416. Was the upgrade accepted and did you have to go to the counter? Was anything required other than the coupon? We have a reservatio for our trip in July and wanted to be sure the coupon wa sstill being accepted.

Just got back from picking up our Minivan at the Tulsa airport using both the AAA code and the coupon. Got the incredible rate of $187. for 8 days, thanks to DanMurphy. Had absolutely no problem. Got to pick between three vans and picked a Buick Terraza. Beautiful vehicle, leather seats and the entertainment system. :cool1:

Edited to add that while the van is nice, after closer inspection, it's really dirty inside, yuck. Guess I get to clean it up tonight . . . JOY!!

Hi All:

I just used the upgrade coupon last night to rent a car from National (10009416) along with the AAA discount of 6100253. Rental dates 8/8-8/15. Monte Carlo for $195.96.

I, too, am curious for those who have used this upgrade coupon, but have no affiliation with Univ. of Wisconsin - other than printing the coupon out and presenting it, is there anything else I need to know?

Historically, any chance of rates going down as I get closer to my trip?

Were you part of the Emerald Club? Did you have to go the counter or did you go straight to the lot to pick out your van and then just present your coupons to the person at the checkout booth?

Also, just curious, what were your van choices? I would love to get one with an entertainment system, rather than going out to buy one for the kids - we have a min. 10 hr. drive! ;)

Also, were the windows tinted? We'll be driving in the heat of summer.... :sad2:

Yes, I am part of the Emerald Club. As a result, I did not have to pay extra for my DH to drive. :Pinkbounc We did not have to go to the counter (even though we did  ) They sent us back out to the garage, but we did have to go through the counter at the garage. They did not ask to see my coupon at all. :smooth:

They told us they had 3 vans available. They weren't busy at all, so I asked if we could go look at all of them and they said sure. :) The available vans: Chevy Uplander - had DVD system, but cloth seats; Kia Sedona - no DVD system, cloth seats; and the Buick Terraza which we picked. All of the back windows are tinted. The driver and front passenger windows are not.

We are still currently on vacation and are very pleased with our choice. Good luck and enjoy your vacation. :cloud9:

Thanks for the info rlduvall! I hope the same is true in New Orleans in August.

Question: If the National site says "New Orleans Airport" but it really is NOT on the airport property, but rather less then a mile a way on a main street (Airline Highway), would it still be considered an aiport location and subject to the "high" airport taxes?

We will be driving straight to the national lot, not using the airport or shuttle at all.

No credits on prepaid, that is where they make big money. Best is not to prepay, and just return it with a full tank. Only way to make out on prepay is to return totally empty.

Good to see some are getting good rates from these codes and coupons. :thumbsup2

I have to chime in here. I have used the following AmEx National code for a few years at different places and have always gotten great rates:5125601

I just booked a midsize (Pontiac G6/grand am size) for a Thursday thru Tuesday in late August to be picked up at John Wayne Airport for $123.86 total. I got a similar rate when I rented thru them in San Francisco back in Sept/Oct 2004. I have used that code at least once here in Orlando (before I moved here). Please note, it did not really work for me when I went home to Philadelphia at Christmas.

Where or what is this code from? It seems to be the best? Thanks.

Has anyone recently had any problems using the double upgrade coupon? Also, did you go to the counter or straight to the Emerald Reserve area? :confused3 My reservation says to the the Emerald Reserve. I'm picking up Sunday and was curious.

It is on Mousesavers as an American Express code. It doesn't seem to work for anything bigger than a fullsize, though.

I just came back from trying this. I had Emerald Reserve and reserved using the original OP's codes. I picked out the van, drove to the exit and the check-out person asked to see my coupons. I didn't have the U of W coupon (forgot to print it out), but she said that it wouldn't be valid anyway for my vehicle! I knew this already (due to this thread) but chanced it anyway. I asked what happens now. She quoted me a price that was over double my original rate. I moaned and groaned (all the time knowing that i was in the wrong), then she told me to go to the customer service booth. She had to tell all of the cars behind me to back up (how embarrassing). Once I got to the booth, I put on my best upset face (knowing all the time that I was wrong) and the guy handled everything. He didn't ask me for the coupon, didn't say that the minivan wasn't eligible, and he completed the reservation with my originl quote ($147). Scariest moment for quite some time. I knew that it could happen, and it did. I wouldn't suggest that anyone else try it.

Regarding prices in the Fall, last Sept. I had an Equinox (upgraded to Trailblazer) at Alamo (I am a *********** member as well as Emerald) for about $100 for the week. A nice deal.

Too bad I really don't need a minivan for the next trip.

I posted a new thread then saw this one....sorry! We had no probelms using our 2 class upgrade as we drove out of the lot last Friday 6/09 in our Uplander. We even showed them the coupon and the lady said nothing. BUT......when we got back we were charged $414 which was DOUBLE what I thought. We had to spend a half an hour talking to the customer service lady who would do nothing (actually she said she would never make a reservation online .... comforting huh? ....finally a manager came over and said let them have it for $224. We had the email that said minivan and coupon accepted so I wasn't going to back down. Good luck to everyone....bring all your paper work.

I have printed all of my coupons and confirmation emails and will be getting our minivan in 46 days! Question: As an Emerald Aisle member, when you return the minivan, do you have to go inside to the counter? I guess I need to read up on the whole process - to get the van, you don't have to go to the counter, but returning it, I don't know :confused3
