2/10 - We all slept fairly well the night before. DS woke up maybe 3 times for just about 30 seconds each time. I think this was the first morning that we all felt fairly rested. We had planned to sleep in as long as possible but by about 7 AM there was a lot of activity right outside our door as the service vehicles started moving around.

We didn’t have any real plans for the day at this point. While DS watched the Wiggles on TV DH and I tried to discuss what we wanted to do. We both decided that maybe a day away from the parks would do all of us some good. DH suggested we just try to “go with the flow” and not plan anything too far in advance. We would just pick something to do and then do it then.

Our first issue was breakfast since we had to eat. I suggested that we might try a character breakfast at one of the resorts. Our options were to try 1900 Park Fare at the GF, ‘Ohana at the Polynesian, Chef Mickey’s at the Contemporary and Cape May Café at the Beach Club. I had DH give me his picks in his order of preference (‘Ohana, 1900, Cape May and Chef Mickey’s in case you were interested) and I called to see if I could make a 9:00’ish PS for any of them. When I called for ‘Ohana the CM told me that the only PS they had available all morning was at 8:40. It was then about 7:30 so I asked DH if he thought we could make it and he thought we could so that is where we were going.

We all hurried to get showered and dressed so we could get to our PS on time. Once again we piled into our rental minivan and tried to follow the signs. We made it to the MK area just fine but when we got there we couldn’t figure out which lane we were supposed to be in to get to the Polynesian. We ended up going the wrong way and we ended up in the parking lot of the MK. Not quite where we wanted to be and it was now about 8:35. We just followed the signs for the exit and found ourselves heading away from the MK. We missed the first turn around but we finally got turned back towards the MK and we managed to get the right lane this time and make it to the Polynesian right at 8:40 so we were going to be late checking into the podium. I was getting a little worried that we would lose our PS but DH did a great job of reminding me that we were not going to worry today. When we checked in at the security gate the CM was very nice when we told him we had a PS for ‘Ohana. I knew they were cracking down on parking at the Polynesian and issuing 2 hour parking passes so I was quite surprised when our parking pass said it was good until 1 PM – just a little over 4 hours worth of parking.

We got DS in the stroller and headed towards the main building and found our way to the second floor to check in for our PS. It didn’t seem to be a problem that we were a few minutes late. We got a little buzzer thing and sat down to wait for them to call us. DS really enjoyed the looks of the lobby area. He really liked all the water and he had a good time just sitting in the chairs and wandering around the area until we were called.

We were seated just about 9. The food here at ‘Ohana is served family style and it was a big skillet of eggs, biscuits, sausage, bacon, potatoes and Mickey waffles. Plus they had this wonderful coconut pineapple bread and bowl of fruit and lots of orange juice. We wisely decided to skip the eggs after DS’s problems from yesterday so he ate mostly waffles, fruit, biscuits and bacon. DH and I loaded up on all of it and it was really good. I especially enjoyed the sausage for some reason. It was very tasty. The characters were Mickey, Goofy, Chip and Dale. While we ate we saw Chip and Dale about three times. It seemed they were always at our table. DS was loving the characters and was having a ball during breakfast. He kept a careful watch on Mickey whenever he was in the area. Finally towards the last half of our meal Mickey made it to our table and DS was just in awe. He was excited and gave Mickey a really sweet hug. It was another very precious moment for DH and I. It is just so exciting to see the magic in your kid’s eyes. We were ready to go at the point but we had still not seen Goofy. He had been to every table around ours but had just failed to stop for some reason. DS had been watching Goofy very closely as well and it seemed like he wanted to see him so we asked our waitress if Goofy could come over before we left since he had skipped our table. It seemed like our waitress didn’t believe us but why would I lie about that? Anyway, Goofy did come over to see Nathan and we got a really cute picture of the two of them. As we were leaving the restaurant DS kept telling everyone “Bye!”.

It was a little past 10 at this point and we were having a great time – we were going with the flow. We decided that since we had not ridden the monorail on this trip that we should head up that way to make the resort loop. On the way there we first stopped to look in the gift shops and we ended up buying a little more Motrin for DS and DS really wanted a postcard of all the characters. DS loved that postcard and kept it with him for most of the rest of the day. He would point to all the characters and tell us their names. He was so proud.

We got to the monorail platform and I decided to ask the CM if there was any chance we could ride up front. In all of our trips we have never had the opportunity but we decided that today we were not in a hurry so we could even wait until the front was available. The CM told us that the front might not be available and I told him that was fine that we were willing to wait until it was. When the next monorail pulled in there was a family sitting in the front but the CM there told us to go ahead and go down to the front? I was a little confused but we headed down that way. The driver told us he was full up front and I told him that was fine and I didn’t understand why the CM had sent us all the way down here in the first place. It just seemed a little strange. It was almost like he was trying to get rid of us and that didn’t make any sense. At that point we figured it wasn’t meant to be so we just hopped into one of the regular cards.

DS LOVED the monorail. It was really funny watching him look out the window as we sped away from the Polynesian heading towards the GF. He was in a great mood this morning (like his normal self) and he was just bouncing around and laughing. It was so nice to just sit there, relax a little and watch DS have so much fun. As we continued on our way we decided to get off at the Contemporary because DH wanted to check out there pin station. We got off the monorail and I think DS was impressed. We headed down to the main concourse and did some pin shopping and looked around all of the other stores as well.

It was about 11:00 by the time we headed back up to the monorail platform. DH was having so much fun with the resort CM’s lanyard that he suggested we head over to the GF to look around. We were the first people at the monorail platform and I decided again to ask if we could ride up front. The CM here was much nicer and while she of course said she couldn’t guarantee it she would check for us. As it turns out the family in the front was getting out at the Contemporary so we could ride in the front for the first time. YAY! We met the driver (who was very nice) and then we climbed on in. Wow that is quite a view they have. It was so exciting to finally get to do this after so many trips. DS just kind of looked around and really didn’t know what to expect. After we got going DS just started getting WAY too excited. He was squealing he was having so much fun. He kept saying “Go! Go!” “Fast!”. He was being awfully cute and our driver just kept laughing at him. He was quite a sight to see. We had to get out at the GF but not before we got our pilot’s licenses.

At the GF we just wandering around the shops a little. In one of the stores I found a watch that I just fell in love with. If you remember from previously I had purchased a child’s Mickey watch earlier in the trip for $30 in the MK so I felt kind of guilty even looking at the watches. The watch I wanted was a two-tone bracelet Mickey watch but it was $79 and that just seemed so extravagant for me especially after already buying a watch. DH took DS to look around some more while I tried to decide. DH finally told me to get it if I wanted it – the money wasn’t too big a deal after all how much money had he spent in pins? Good point! I bought it and I am so glad because I really love it. I will still wear my little Mickey watch someday but I think I will more than likely put it up for DS to have when he is ready for a watch!

By about noon we decided that we might better get some lunch and go back for a nap. We decided to just eat lunch at the Pop Century food court. We get back on the monorail and plan to ride all the way back to the Polynesian. While we are loading at the GF I headed for a car that is mostly empty but I hear DH telling me “No, No – this one” and he points to a car that is almost full and we will have to stand. Huh? Well I follow him over and step inside and now I know why. There are 3 men in that car that are covered in pins! DH wanted a chance to look at their pin collections so DH pulls out the big pin book and they all start hovering over it while we are sitting in the station for a maintenance check. One of the men does offer me a seat so I guess I can’t complain too much. When we get going to the MK stop the men are wanting to get out so DH suggests that we follow so he can see if he can make some trades. I thought we were heading back for lunch? Oh well hopefully it will be quick. DS and I hang around the platform while DH continues to look at pins. After about 15 minutes no trades have taken place and we are ready to continue. We hop back on the monorail and we were back in our car and on the way to Pop Century in just a short time.

We get to the food court and for the first time during our trip we see it when it is just not that busy. It was a nice chance of pace. DH wants one of the individual pizzas and I order nachos and we decide that DS will just share with us. DS eats a few of my nachos but mostly he just wants to pick every single black olive off of them. DS loves black olives. I like a few of them on nachos or on pizza, etc. but I really don’t care for them plain but DS could eat a bucket of them. After he eats all of the olives he of course asks for more. It seems a little strange but I ask DH to go up to the nacho counter and see if we could buy a side of olives. DH comes back with a container full of olives and said they didn’t charge him for them so DS happily chows down.

We get back to the room a little after 1 and DS and I lay down for our nap. DH stays up to rearrange his pin collection. We didn’t have any plans for after our nap. We figured we would do something when we woke up. We woke up about 3:30 and tried to decide what to do next. We decided that we would go to Downtown Disney and do a little shopping (DH wants to go to the pin area) so we get ready to go and take the car over to the Downtown area.

We had a great parking spot right by the World of Disney store. We spent about 20 minutes or so in the WoD store before DS starts to get frustrated because we won’t let him have everything he wants. I was trying to pick out a few gifts for my niece quickly when DS spots a souvenir picture book about WDW and he wants it BAD! The book is 9.95 and at that moment I was not really sure about it so I told DS to put it back and boy did that set off probably the worst fit I have ever seen him have. He just threw himself down on the ground and was MAD! DH quickly scooped him up and took him outside to calm down while I quickly finished up my shopping. I did end up getting the book for him after I had a chance to look at it just a little more. It was $10 but it had lots of pictures of the parks and characters and it was something he would really enjoy. I did not get it for him to stop the tantrum.

When I got back outside I saw DH sitting on a ledge with DS standing nearby just kind of sniffling. Apparently DH walked out there with him and stood him right where he was while DS just screamed for a few more minutes while DH pretty much just ignored him. Apparently he got some bad looks from some people but he said the parents with kids just looked at him sympathetically. I laughed and said that is because they have all been there before in a store with their kids. Besides, DS must be feeling better to pitch a fit like that over a book. That had nothing to do with not feeling better…he just didn’t like being told “No!”. (Later that evening I pulled the book out for him and he was so happy. He really loves that book and he is still pulling it out everyday to show us the pictures in it. He talks about the characters and some of the rides like Dumbo and just glows when he is looking at it so I am really glad I gave in. I only hope me giving him the book was far enough removed from the tantrum that he doesn’t think that is why he got the book.)

We next headed over to the Once Upon a Toy store to buy more Mr. Potato Head parts. My Dad had been down here last fall and I had him buy DS one of the Disney potato heads for Christmas. As it turns out Mr. Potato Head was probably one of the biggest hits for DS at Christmas so we decided we had to buy more parts for him. In fact we even packed the potato head in our luggage so he could play in the room. My Dad wanted to pack as many parts as he could in his box so DS had lots of the small pieces – lots of ears, noses, hands, etc. but he had just one hat, two feet, etc.. so that is what we decided to focus on. They had so many cute hats but they were rather large and we could get all we wanted in one box. So since we like to spoil DS we decided to get two boxes and to throw one of the mini-potato heads and associated pieces to fill out the second box. We spent over $30 in potato head parts!!! ARRRGGGHHH! We are crazy but DS has loved the new parts and it is a lot of fun to play potato head when you can dress him up so many ways. J

We of course had to head over to the pin area next but I told DH I didn’t think we should stay very long because it was almost 6 and we really should figure out what to do for dinner. We discussed it a little and DH said that he wanted to go back to Spoodles on the Boardwalk. We had lunch there in January 2001 and they had some of the best calamari DH has ever tasted. So we spent a little time at the pin cart before heading over to the Boardwalk. This is where our lack of knowledge hurt us again. There were not any signs that we saw pointing us to the Boardwalk from Downtown so we ended up just heading towards Epcot figuring that there would be some signs in that area since it is so close to Epcot. Well we followed the signs and we ended up at …. Epcot. Oh well! When we got to the parking gate we asked the attendant how to get to the Boardwalk and she pulled out this little card with directions. She said they get questions all the time! J Well with our little direction card we easily made it over to the resort and we headed straight for the restaurant.

There was no wait and we were seated immediately. Our waiter had a very heavy accent and it was so hard to understand him over the noise. This restaurant is very LOUD in the evening. It was pretty quite the day we had lunch so I wasn’t quite expecting that. We ordered calamari as an app, the shrimp for DS, DH had some kind of chicken and I ordered a spicy chicken pasta dish along with a margarita (hey I deserved it!).

When the calamari came we offered some to DS not knowing what he was going to think but he LOVED it and DH had to fight him to get some. J DS certainly is not a picky eater yet. DS filled up mostly on calamari and bread so when his shrimp showed up he was not really hungry. Oh well! My dish was wonderful and I wished I hadn’t been so full so I could eat more of it. The margarita was not very good however. DH said his chicken was also very tasty but he had the same problem I had. We wanted to eat more but we just couldn’t.

After dinner we walked around the Boardwalk for a while just enjoying the atmosphere. Overall we were just amazed that we had managed to have such a great day after how the previous days had gone. We were finally really and truly enjoying our trip! We knew we had to return to the resort so we could get some sleep but we really didn’t want the day to end. We were back at Pop by 9 that night and we all turned in by 10 to get ready for tomorrow – our final day in the parks. We were going to “go with the flow”! We couldn’t wait!!! J

I am glad yor third day was a good one for the entire family. Can't wait for the last day's report.

Just wanted to say hi to nathan from another olive lover. I have been chowing down on olives (green & black) since I was his age. I still love them!!! Every thanksgiving and christmas there is always a bowl of olives on the table just for me!!

Sounds like a wonderful day! Thank you for sharing!

Sounds like an amazing day! Our DD has also been a black olive lover since she was a toddler. I don't understand it, either, because I think they're disgusting.

I've gotta try Spoodles soon; it's on the list! :)

With an 18 month old in the house, I'm reading your reports with lots of empathy! It seems that all of my nightmares about taking her came true in your trip! :) I'm glad that this day was so much better. Can't wait to read how it ends...........:wave2:
