I just saw this. They dug up the yard of the Vandersloots and searched the house.

Holloway Probe Continues in Aruba

New Clues in Holloway Disappearance?

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) -- Dutch police on Friday searched the yard of a one-time suspect in the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway, the Aruban prosecutors' office said.

Using thin metal rods and shovels, police and forensic investigators churned up the earth outside the home of Joran van der Sloot, the last person known to have seen Holloway alive before she vanished nearly two years ago during a school vacation on the Dutch Caribbean island.

"The investigation has never stopped and the Dutch authorities are completely reviewing the case for new indications," Vivian van der Biezen, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office, told reporters gathered outside the home.

About 20 investigators arrived from the Netherlands on April 16, van der Biezen said. She said they also searched the home, but she could not say why. They left after a couple hours inside the walled property.

A statement from the prosecutors' office said: "The team has indications that justify a more thorough search."

Holloway, an 18-year-old from Mountain Brook, Ala., vanished in the early hours of May 30, 2005, the last day of a five-day vacation to celebrate her high school graduation with 124 other students.

She was seen leaving a bar with van der Sloot, then 17, and two Surinamese brothers. The brothers, Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, were jailed and later released after a judge ruled there was not enough evidence to hold them.

Van der Sloot, a Dutch citizen who has been attending college in the Netherlands, was jailed for about three months. He has said he left Holloway alone on a beach after they kissed and he did not harm her.

Calls made to the law office of Paulus van der Sloot, the suspect's father, were not immediately returned Friday.

At least 10 people have been arrested and released without charges. Hundreds more have been questioned.

The Dutch marines, the local coast guard, the FBI, hundreds of volunteers and others have scoured the island's dunes, beaches and trash dumps for Holloway. Scuba divers and sonar-equipped coast guard ships have also examined the seabed.

What caught my eye is that team has indications that "justify a more thorough search". I still wonder why they didn't do a "more thorough search" initially. I feel very bad for the mom.

I hope this doesn't end being another dead end. WHY wasn't this done when she first dissapeared? I'm curious to find out what's been found.

I'm actually reading the book Aruba written by Dave Halloway after just returning a week ago from Aruba where we were vacationing. We heard so many stories from the locals while we were there about how Natalie was troubled and how good the Aruban goverment has been to the family.
Anyway in the book it said they did drain a pond that was on the property of Jordan Van der Sloot but never said anything about the grounds. His father also is very affluentual in Aruba because they have $$$$. Many tour guides spoke to us of how money talks on that island and if you have any then they let you do whatever you want. I guess it is true as when Jordans Dad was arrested they let him drive himself to the police station as he refused to get in a police car,. Refused yeah right wonder what would happen in this country if you refused.. Good read so far in case anyone is interested.

I'm glad you posted this!

I glimpsed a blurb on TV and didn't catch what it was it at all. I too wonder why the search wasn't done earlier. If the authorities didn't do it because of, "the father" then why is it ok now? And the father & son have been gone for quite awhile, why didn't they at least do it after they first left. Why now?

The whole case is so strange. So many holes and twists. I also feel sorry for the mother. She has lost so much and has no answers.

I'll have to look for the book, "Aruba".

I have always thought that there were drugs involved with her death and that she died accidentally. I think the boys panicked and the father either helped them after the fact or intentionally lied to cover up.

Even with this latest info, I don't think this case will ever be solved.

I didn't know he wrote a book. Thanks for mentioning it. I'm definitely going to look for it.

Me either!

It will be 2 years at the end of May.

This story broke, while I was on my Honeymoon in WDW. I remember being glued to the news in the evenings. I just hope that they finally come to a conclusion and this is not a dead end.

I don't know why I am writing this,as it creeps me out thinking about it, but here it goes. I watched the movie Human Trafficing on Lifetime right before this story broke, so you know where my thoughts went. Why can they not find a body on that island? I am truly sorry if my thoughts have offended anyone. The whole story is just so sad.

I did see that on CNN this morning. At least they're still trying, although I feel it's hopeless. Someone got away with murder. I feel very bad for the parents.

You weren't the only one. Dr. Phil explored that possibility and girls that had been missing from cruise ships were also spotted elsewhere and were victims of abduction.

I rarely see Dr. Phil but I saw this particular show and I have always wondered if anyone ever followed up on this. If they were sold into sexual slavery in brothels on Curacao (as was suggested), why wouldn't/couldn't this have been more vigilantly pursued? It seems within the realm of possibility that this could have happened.

I just hope they find something. I know they'll probably never find Natalee, but her family deserves some type of closure. I couldn't bear to live the rest of my life wondering if my daughter really is alive and out there somewhere.

We heard some things when we were in Aruba this spring. Like that she had over $10,000 in cash on her :confused3 and that her bags were completely packed up in her room for several days prior to the day they were supposed to leave. Also that her roommates didn't even report her missing until they were boarding the plane to return home and she didn't show...

Very strange case...

Because her body was most likely taken out to sea and dumped.

I keep thinking this, as well. Doesn't Daddy Van der Sloot (sp?) have a private plane? I think he flew her way out over the ocean, and dropped her out, wrapped in chains or something to keep her down.

Although, I once had a very realistic and graphic dream that she was buried in a barrel of liquid, under the floor / dirt of an airplane hangar on the island.

This whole thing is just heartbreaking.

That has always been my suspicion also. I am heartened, however, that Aruba hasn't totally put this case on the back shelf. Maybe someday the mystery will finally be solved. I hope so, for the family's sake.

Didn't they already confirm that they were on a boat that night? I could be mistaken. Or they were investigating someone Vandersloot knew that took a boat out late that night. I can't remember the details.

From what I remember, offhand, I think they brought in and maybe even arrested some guy who was a party boat captain. He was friends with the brothers and Van der Sloot, I think, and he might have overheard one of them saying something about Natalee or they directly asked his advice on the situation.....I can't remember exactly. But, supposedly, nothing ever came out of it and he was released from all suspicion.

At least I think that's how it went.
