We are going for a week in August 2010. What are the chances of a hurricane going in that far. What kind of preparations should we make? What does WDW do incase of hurricanes? Thanks for the info!

You don't need to worry about it until about a week before you come...certainly not now.

I hope we have another hurricane free season.

I'd be less concerned about a hurricane and give more thought to the heat. I went in the last week of august 2009 and let me tell you, it wasn't just hot, it was oven hot :scared1:
It was so hot, I thought we were just going to melt.
We carried two gallons of water with us around the MK becuase DH has a dehydration problem. Good thing we got a double stroller. It was more for lugging our water supply than trying to keep two 8 year olds from cranking up a storm. The only relief from the heat you get is when you step inside an attraction with the sub zero air conditioning. My DD got soaking wet at ariel's grotto and I had to spend $60 on two t shirts and a pair shorts to get her out of her wet clothes.
That said, I would go again in the heat but I would keep my stress level way down. The heat can get everyone in the group a bit cranky.

Not to be a "Debbie Downer" ;( But I went to the farmers almanac about
5 minutes before I saw your post to check on the "forecast" for our visit
and this is what it said about August :

Summer will be cooler and rainier than normal, with the hottest periods in early to mid- and mid- to late August. Watch for a major hurricane in late August or early September.

I hope its wrong, that's the last thing Florida needs.

We were there the first week of September '09. I fretted and worried about storms, heat, hurricanes- you name it. You know what? We went, we had some rain, some heat and lots and lots of fun. Don't worry about that over which you have no control. Just enjoy the time with your family!

Have a great time!

We don't really keep an eye out for hurricanes but in all our 43 trips, mostly early fall, we have incurred 2 hurricanes, really nipped WDW. WDW is all about safety and if I had to ride out a hurricane it would be at WDW. Structures are built for the winds and rains and CM's are prepared.

Our big problem came when it was time to go home and the hurricane did damage to the rails, we come and go by Amtrak. We had to extend our stay 3 nights before Amtrak was up and running. Disney property is safe but you must watch out on how you're going to get out, especially the route home, if damage was incurred along your route it may not impact you at WDW but somewhere along your route home. By car, train or plane you must be vigilant.

We are also going the last week of aug/first week of sep. Crossing fingers. We went the some week in 04 we came in right one storm and flew in to one on the flight home.
