Nasty Stomach Bug

Tis the season....You can't stress about it. Stress will just put a damper on your trip. I was also told (don't know if it is true, but it makes sense) that stress can bring your immune system down. Just wash hands and try not to touch the railings too much. :thumbsup2 You can catch something in a grocery store or the post office or at church. Just enjoy yourselves....

For all of those going during this Christmas season - Have fun and I hope for a healthy vacation!!!! You are lucky to go this time of year. Maybe some year we will be able to go during Christmas time..... :cloud9:

We just got back on Nov. 1st and we all caught the cold that's going around WDW. I've been NyQuillin' for the past three days! It's bad, but we're managing. No one has missed school or work yet. (Knock on wood!) It must be airborne because we were very careful to wash our hands when we could and use Purell antibacterial gel. So far, no one has signs of the stomach thing! Whew! I hope it's gone by the time we go back to WDW for Christmas!

Got back on 11/6. I felt fine for the entire trip, but had a sore throat on the morning we left. This progressed to the nasty cold I'm nursing today. Atleast I was healthy for the majority of the trip.

if it's the same we got last month the vomiting and diarrhea lasted less than 24 hrs( as my daughter said, 34"expulsions" in 15 hrs, you do the math, needed a bucket and the toilet  ) but the weakness, nausea, diarrhea lasted a good week-10 days. would not be able to tour the parks with it..we first thought it was food poisoning when daughter got it but when we heard of others who got it and then i did, it obviously wasn't. probably one of the worst flu type things i ever had, easily rivaling a bad food poisoning i got once

hope it doesn't impact any ones travel plans but it seemed to have about a 4 day incubation period. truthfully i would wash and wash and rewash my hands then sanitizeif i was in any place with tons of people like Disney :teeth:

Just curious...is there ever a good time to go to WDW, perhaps when there is a smaller likelihood that we might catch something? I know that there are certain cold and flu seasons and I also understand that due to the large volumes of people who congregate at the theme parks, Disney is a veritable breeding ground for all sorts of lovely contagious illnesses. I have to say that I absolutely loathe stomach bugs, especially the type that involve vomiting as this can really put a damper on your vacation (to say the least!!). Just wondering if anyone had heard anything regarding illness trends in Orlando so I can potentially avoid those travel times!! :rotfl:

As far as sicknesses go...probably not. Seems there are threads like this at least once every month. When we were up there last month I recall a thread similar to this one while we were there, we were fine. There's never a "certain" time of the year that are prone to this. I used to think winter was more sickly but seems anytime of the year can be a sickly time.

Like anything else, the more people, the more sicknesses...just life. I just know that FL Centra Care is close by and that's where we go when we get sick. If its a stomach virus unfortunately there's not much you can do but just wash up as much as possible and use the hand sanitizer.

I know there are those "skeptic" about the sanitzers but I will completely disagree with them. We go to WDW 3-4 times a year and use it all of the time. We've been pretty lucky excpet for the one time dd got strep, but she already had that in her system from home since she got it the 2nd day we were there. Thanks to FL Centre Care she was on antibiotics and feeling much better a day and a half later.

Try not to let these threads alarm you. There are thousands among thousands of people EVERYDAY at WDW and on average only a small handful will get sick. Many sicknesses are brought from home and that's how they spread, just use the sanitzer (the alcohol based type). It works well for us.

Another Purell carrier!!! We always have it in our fanny packs if traveling after Sept!! I left WDW on Oct 26, feeling crappy. Slept on the plane, which is something I never do. The day after we got home, my temp was up to 101 and I run a degree low normally!!! It took a week before I could clean my filthy house!!
We also have that nasty stomach bug here in Mass as well Peg. My dd came home from school yesterday, but the bug never came to 'fruition' if you know what I mean. Just queasy all day. Lots of kids out with it though.

Anytime you put a ton of people in close proximity, you are going to 'share' germs. You just have to be extra careful at this time of year....lots of stuff out there.

First of Mlil, I like the Serenity T-shirt in your family pic, I want one to. Too bad the show went south :( Anyway, back on topic, my fiancee is currently at home with a stomach bug. She seems to think it is food poisoning, but she is getting better. It was a rather noisy and sleepless night for us. Hopefully if I get it, it is this week or next so I can get fully prepared for our trip the week after Thanksgiving.

Here is wishing all good health (even me) ;)

My DS5 just got out of the hospital this morning after spending all day and last night there. He got it BAD :crazy2:  He couldn't keep anything down, not even water! We are incredible germaphobes and are constantly washing or Purell-ing and he still got it. Our DD9 got it a week before but not even close to as bad. Our saying in the house is "HANDWASHING, HANDWASHING, HANDWASHING". The good news is that they will be back to normal by the time we leave in 27 days :cool1: Knock on wood that my DW and I don't get it. In a word - AIRBORNE. Man, that stuff works awesome!
