Nassau - what to see and do

bump...because I want to know the answer, too!

I think the reason why there has not been a reply is because on all the pages of this thread are varying answers to the variable scenarios. There is not a single Yes or NO. For fun, I'll try to break down into 4 factors:

1) how much time you have in Nassau. Some boats get there mid-morning and leave late afternoon, and it will be hard to justify even a 200$ room since you have to factor in taxi time, and you MUST be back in time!

2) If Atlantis has a special and/or a web site such as travelocity gives you a 200$ room deal: Happens surprisingly a lot. DW & I would think that if the total comes out close to 100$/person (not per room), it's worth it, if total closer to 200$/person, not worth it...

3) Comfort suites vs Atlantis... even though CS is just one block away, I must say we thought it was great to be at Atlantis, and go back and forth easier...

4) If you have kids who are pre-teen or teen, BIG plus for Atlantis.

Hope this helps

We got back from the Wonder about 10 days ago. We booked a room at the Comfort Suites for $135. When the taxes, housekeeping fees and energy surcharge was added, it came to $179.20 for two adults and two 15 years olds. It cost us $20 to get over to the CS by taxi--about 15 minutes total time from port to hotel, riding with another family. Check-in took abuot 15 minutes, and we checked out while we were checking in. The walk from the CS to the Atlantis was about 5 minutes, then it was another 8-10 minutes to actually find the pool area. We got towels and then found a chair for our stuff. Then we enjoyed the pools, slides, lazy river, etc. Lunch was $25 for the family hamburger meal, consisting of four good-sized burgers with Lettuce, tomato and onion, 2 large fries and 4 sodas.

We spent from 10-4 there and had a great day for right around $250, or $63 per person, which is fairly reasonable for cruise excursions. We had been to Nassau 3 times before on the Wonder and had stayed on the ship each time. I really much prefered our day at the Atlantis to staying onboard. The one drawback was that I didn't use enough sunscreen, so I didn't get to fully enjoy CC the next day because of my sunburn.

This past February we did the Stingray Adventure at Blackbeard's Cay. Had a great time. Get all the time you want to interact with the stingrays or hang out at beach, rent waverunners, etc.

We booked on our own through there web site.

Does anyone know if I need to book two rooms at Comfort Suites for 5 people? My party consists of me, DH, DD 10, DD 6, and DD 2. I would really hate to book another room for a wristband for a 2 year old.

Also, I was wondering which is best, taxi or water taxi to Comfort Suites?
Thanks for any help :cheer2:

Also wondering about room capacity at Comfort Suites. We are a family of 6. Comfort Suites website says kids stay free in existing bedding...and the rooms have a sofa bed...but their website also says only 4 people per room. I guess I need to call them.
If it is a max of 4, I will probably just buy 2 child day passes at the Atlantis front desk($75 each...cheaper than a second room).
I have also thought about trying to find someone on the cruisemeets board to see if they want to "share" a reservation, so I could pick up the 2 extra armbands that I need for less....can't find anyone on my cruise though.

We were off the ship for about 4 hours. Walked over to the Pirate Museum, went through some of the shops and then went on a horse/carriage ride.
Perfect.

We like to make a sort visit:beach: to the shops then back to the ship to swim in the Goofey pool.

My family just informed me that I spelled Goofy wrong. Ooops!

One thing that I didn't see on this topic is that no one went to try to play a round of golf. I checked the excursion list for the 3 day cruise and none listed. In fact the only time you can schedule a round of golf is in St. Maarten, I think. Anyhow back to golf. Has anyone checked in to that? I know that there are some nice courses there.

If anyone has any experience with this please let me know.

We booked a room at Atlantis and hung out at Aquaventure all day. Their water park is HUGE! The lazy rivers are great...the water slides (so many of them) are alot of fun...the beach is beautiful (although the water was too rough that day so we couldn't actually swim in it)...the aquarium is super cool! It was alot of fun, and even better...we had a room to go back to in order to shower and get ready before heading back to the ship. That was really nice b/c we just pretty much went straight to the show and then dinner as soon as we boarded the ship.

From what little we saw of Nassau before getting to Atlantis...I can't say that I would have wanted to explore it any further. It just seemed to be alot of the same...people trying to braid your hair...straw markets....nothing special or nice. The Bahamian people did seem very, very nice though.

One thing I would recommend: We took a little boat to Atlantis. It was $3 per person and we thought it would be more fun than taking a Taxi. (The taxi ride is $4 per person.) We were told it would be about a 10 minute ride. Wrong! The boat wouldn't leave until it was totally and completely packed full of people so we sat in the hot sun for some time before even leaving. Then, the boat hardly even crawled along and there was a "tour guide" speaking so it took about 30-40 minutes to get there. Once we were finally there, the "tour guide" announced that he doesn't actually work for that boat company...that he did his little spill for free and that tips would be appreciated. So, of course, we felt inclined to tip him even though we were quite irritated at how long it took us to get there. We actually bought round trip tickets for the boat, but after seeing what it was like, we threw the return tickets away and just got a taxi for the way back.

Hope this helps!

Has anyone done the dolphin encounter at the Atlantis? The excursion info says that it includes the Aquaventure water park.

TIA,
Kim

DW and I have been on 2 4days curises now on the Wonder. And both time only been in Nassau for about an hour. Our 1st vist a guy came up to us and wanted to take us around the island for free.He told us it was free if we did not like the tour. Then told us to go over to military shack to verify that he would not take us out and murder us. YES that is what he said to us. We did not take his tour.

This last Oct 07 another guy came up to DW and I and told me he could braid my hair and give me a tatoo in the same chair. Now I would call this guy a talented guy in my book. NOOOOO he did not braid or tatoo me:rotfl: We enjoy the ship being empty hot and pool to ourself. DW had spa to herself. Nice lunch and a nap.

We have a 7 day curise coming up in 09 looking for it will miss the tour guy and hair braider from Naasau:laughing:

I haven't done the Atlantis one but I have done the one through dolphin encounters twice and it is pretty good. Although next time we want to do the swim which you have to book on your own

Shopping -- is there any real shopping in Nassau? This is our first time back in years.

Thank you :)
Ginny

This is our first cruise, how long are you actually in Nassau? That will depend on what we actually do.

Thanks!
