We are taking the four day land/three day sea Disney trip on May 5-12, for the first time. There are four adults and four children (9, 8, 6 and 4). I was wondering if it is wise to do a shore excursion (e.g., Blue Lagoon Beach) or just to get off the ship and walk around for awhile and then get back on the ship? Also, if we don't book a shore excursion, how would we get to a beach? I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks!

My vote is for none of the above; spend the day at the Atlantis resort instead! What a place! It's a big luxury resort with a mini-water park --- lots of pools, slides, plus the beach too. There's also "the Dig" which is a walk-through underground aquarium -- also pretty big. My DD8 and I did this and had a fabulous day. If you book a room at the Comfort Suites you get access to the Atlantis grounds. You never even go to the room, unless you want to, just check in, get your voucher (for wristbands) and cross the street to Atlantis. With your crew you might need two rooms. I've done the beach, markets, Blue Lagoon, and dolphin swim, and prefer Atlantis by far. By the way, you can walk off the boat and get a cab to take you anywhere for cheap.

Has anyone ever done the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter? Is it suitable for a 6 yr old and a 9 yr old. How much time do you interact with the dolphins? What do you do the rest of the time there? Was it worth it?

Also, anyone done the historic Nassau van tour? I know, sounds boring but it could be interesting...anybody have any opinions?

I was checking the prices at comfort suites and I could get a room for $158 for the day we are there. If so, I understand we can use the Atlantis facilities for free. Has anyone done this? How did your kids enjoy the slides, etc...is there enough there to make it worthwhile? How much time did you spend there? We did the tour of the aquarium last time and loved it but don't know if we'd do it again so I wanted opinions of the other facilities

Thanks so much!

You need other opinions too, but here's mine. We headed to Atlantis and spent the whole day there, so it was actually a longer day for us than Castaway day. There are pools everywhere on the grounds, but the biggest area is the pyramid. They have racing slides off the back side, a huge plunge side down the front, and a tube ride through the pyramid that ends with you in a plexiglass tunnel that goes through a shark lagoon. There are a few other slides sprinkled here and there; we really enjoyed a pull and drop side on the other side of the property. The property is really big so you can do some walking. Several pools have grottos and waterfalls that can be fun for kids (and dads) to play in. The beach is right there too, although we didn't do that. We also got my daughter's hair braided there, and avoided other busier places. (it was clean and they used our comb). It's not a full blown water park though, but if you're water people you can kill the day easily.

You got the money part right --- pay for a room at Comfort, and that gets you into Atlantis. The only other money we spent was for lunch and the hairbraiding; the Dig was "included" so you might wander through it again at that price.

I know less about the Dolphin Encounter than the Dolphin swim. I'm torn on this --- it cost a ton and I'd not do it again, but we have some priceless pictures and my daughter had a great time. It was more of a photo shoot with dolphins, than a lot of interaction with them; we'd have preferred the latter. I'm sure others will provide details on the Encounter. The dolphin place is right there at Blue Lagoon, so you can walk over and enjoy the lagoon after your encounter, and take a later boat back --- but you need to be aware of the boat shuttle schedules because you're going "off tour" at that point.

Happy hunting!
