Hi,

This is our first time at Nassau. Two boys ages 9 and 12. Any recommendations for fun family activities? Atlantis sounds great, but it is expensive. Thanks so much.

Stay on the boat. Fewer people onboard and you won't have to deal the VERY pushy people peddling their wares onshore.

Personally, I've been to Nassau twice now, and I wouldn't recommend going to Atlantis. We went there our first time, and didn't see the value. The second time, we only went off the boat to shop, and then went back on the ship. It's not a destination that my family particularly enjoys. If you want to enjoy the aquaduck, there are usually little to no waits while you are in port. There are plenty of movies showing. If you want to get off, there is a beach area about 15-20 minute walk. The shopping is also really close to the port.

I have an 8yo and 11yo, and I went back and forth between a bunch of things. I nixed Atlantis b/c there are way too many ships in port when we're there to justify the high cost. We ended up booking the semi-sub. It's short, (relatively) cheap, easy to get to, and will get us out into the world to see a new place briefly. They still love the Nemo sub ride at DL, so I'm kinda figuring it's a live, real version of that, ha! We'll be back on-board before lunch time, so if we end up deciding the shopping looks good, or the adults want to go to Pirate Republic, plenty of time still... or more ship time! :)

We did the Blue Lagoon Beach day with meal and loved it. Thinking of going back again on our cruise in May 2017. Very relaxing.

My advice to anyone at Nassau. Stay on the boat. I've been 3 times now and really none of the stuff we have done in Nassau has been worth the price.

Take the Greycliff Chocolate Tour. They hand you a cup of melted chocolate and let you play with it.

Is this an excursion you book or something you do on your own?

You go on your own. It's maybe a 10-15 minute walk from the ship. Just check for national holidays for the Bahamas. They are closed on holidays (and we didn't realize it and it was literally the only thing we planned on for our day in Nassau which happened to be Bahamian Labor Day).

Do something with dolphins at Blue Lagoon. We had a large family group and it was fun. The Blue Lagoon area was very nice.

We've only been to Nassau twice and the first time was a bit of a bust - we visited the straw market and did some shopping. After that visit we were in the "stay one the boat camp."

Last trip there we tried Cabbage Beach - which is very close to Atlantis - and had a really good time.

Cab was $4 per person (1 way) - they dropped us off at the beach access, which admittedly didn't look great, but once you get to the beach it is really nice. There were some folks selling/renting stuff including umbrellas, chairs, and drinks - when it was time to go there were a ton of cabs waiting.

This was our view early in the day - as it got later in the day more folks showed up!

Another vote here for the Greycliff Hotel Chocolate Factory Tour. We've done this tour twice now (enjoyed it so much we went back a second time) and would highly recommend it as a fun family tour. They will pack up the chocolates you make for you and there's no problem bringing them back to the ship with you.

As a side note, if you've never been to Nassau before, don't just stay on the ship because others think that's what you should do. Get off, explore, and make your own decision if nothing more than to be able to say, "Been there, done that". Bon Voyage.

Blue Lagoon is amazing. It reminds me a lot of Castaway Cay.

(But for ethical reasons I recommend NOT to do anything with dolphins or sea lions).

I've taken my son to both Melia beach resort and the British Hilton and purchased day passes to use their pools and beaches. Safe and relaxing fun. The BC Hilton is within walking distance of the ship and the day pass cost includes food credit.

YES. Been to Nassau 4 times, stayed onboard twice and this is my favorite excursion. For a first timer at Nassau its worth at least getting off the ship so you can say you did it.

A few years ago, we went to Blue Lagoon...we enjoyed an amazing and scenic catamaran ride to the island lagoon, plenty of relaxing, eating/drinking, and lots of things for the kids to enjoy. After returning to the mainland, we walked around downtown and enjoyed exploring and shopping.
