I'm trying to figure out what to do on our Nassau day. It's our first visit there and and we want to at least get our feet on land there
Our party of 4 is myself, DH, & DDs 12&9
I thought I would check out what Comfort Suites prices looked like as an alternative to paying DCL prices to go to Atlantis
When I do an online booking to check rates for 4 people (just like we will be staying overnight) it comes up as $330 including tax. Did I do this correctly?
It seems like such a great deal compared to anything else I've seen

That is possible and I don't think you did anything wrong. I would double check that all the fees are included in the price. There are a lot of fees for things that you don't use. I know there is always a housekeeping fee even though I've never gotten a room key or stepped into a room. The end price with the fees has always been a better deal than the other options for us.

Just make sure you get to the final checkout screen and see the extra fees added. But no, that seems like a plausible charge. We paid a little more than that, but we had a teenager who triggered an extra upcharge of $40 for an extra adult. With a 9 and 12 year old, you won't have that charge.

What happens if ship does not go to Nassau? One of our DCL cruises switched the day of Nassau very close to departure.

That's what really has me on the fence. I haven't looked too much into, but imagine that it would be too late to cancel.

Used it a few years ago and it was a great deal. Never even stepped foot into our room, checked in, got our wrist bands and headed across the street. It was a bit of a walk but well worth the extra time due to the money saved.

I have done it twice, once I got it free on points!! So easy. We checked in and out the same time, walk down the hall and out the BACK door and you are just across the street from the Casino. Go in, take you paper room key and thats it. When you are done, cabs are waiting at Atlantis main lobby area.

Really? I've just gotten it for medical benefits. It would kick in for the price of a room if we failed to dock, is that what you are saying?

You have to specifically add your excursions onto your policy, and there will be a small extra cost, but if you do, then yes, they will be covered if you don't get to do them for the same set of reasons as the rest of your policy.

In our case, there was a very real chance that our group of 9 would have to cancel our trip at the last moment. So we added all of our excursions onto our Trip Insurance. It cost like 2 or 3% of the excursions, and true, we didn't end up using it, but to us, it was worth the peace of mind. It especially calmed the person who might have caused us to to miss it. That way they knew there was less pressure on them if they couldn't go, we'd all be made whole, at least financially.

Yep. For our Alaskan cruise we got a cruise-specific insurance policy that covered just this eventuality. For us, it was worth it because our excursions were ridiculously expensive and we booked them all third party. In case the ship didn't dock for whatever reason, we didn't want to lose hundreds of dollars.

I should also add that SOME vendors will refund your money if the ship doesn't dock. So if you are booking with a non-Disney excursion company, be sure to ask them.

If we ever go to Nassau again, I definitely will book CS and get the insurance. I really enjoy the aquaventure! Next 4 DCL cruises though, no Nassau!

Has anyone ever actually used the room? Seems like it would make a nice "home base" for the day. Swim for a bit, go to the room and change them shop, catch a lunch, etc.

I haven't stayed in the room but a couple of times when we were checking in, the front desk agent said something like- "Come back after 3 and your room will be ready" Since we didn't care, I didn't push it to see if we could get it earlier.
I will say that it is a bit of a hike from the main aquaventure pools to the CS. Not bad once but not something I'd want to do multiple times a day.
Sorry, 1 other thing, when we were there in November they had changed where you get the wristbands. It is no longer past the casino and downstairs. It is in the lobby of the coral building (I think that is what it is called). Unfortunately that is further away from the big slides than it used to be.

Ohh, I'm glad you said points. I just looked at the Marriott site (who runs Atlantis) and a room comes up free with our points for our Nassau day. Did you use points at Atlantis or at the Comfort Suites? Do I need to call and tell them if I'm not using the room? They don't mind if we get there at 10am?

No, it would just be confusing and could cause problems if the reservation agent screws up your reservation.

Atlantis is an Autograph Collection hotel, which are generally independently owned and operated. Some of the hotels allow booking through Marriott's reservation system, and you can redeem Marriott points there, but they are not managed by Marriott. This is the case at Atlantis, which is owned by Brookfield Asset Management and managed by the some of the remaining executives who managed the place under the old owner, Kerzner.

Okay, well I am not really concerned with who manages it...just that I could redeem our points for it, and I did. Free excursion, yippie!!
