Nashville area DISers please check in!

On a side note...did anyone see that jerk last night on channel 2 washing his car. I walked in on the tail end of the news and saw him. When the news crew confronted him he just shook his head and said I'm sorry. They told him that people were going without showers so that Nashville could have drinking water and here he is washing his car... then he said something like, well I'm sorry but I'm not going without a shower for 3 days either Its a good think the 2nd water plant didnt get flooded.

I live in LaVergne and were spared. I feel so badly for those that have lost everything. A friend of a friend is still missing in Bellvue. They found his car but have not found him. He was with a friend Saturday night not sure if they were trying to come back into Bellvue to get home or evacuate but the car was washed away by flood waters. They were on top of the car and the friend was able to get to saftey and tried to help him but he wasn't successful. They have organized a search party and are hoping to find him safe and sound. He's young, in his 30's. Sad situation.

Regarding the water conservation.. I work at Vandy and on my way in to work this morning I noticed that the fire dept in Hillsboro Village had just washed their fire engine this morning, it was parked out front and still had water dripping from it! What the heck??

I am in Ashland City. What a mess. I finally got out yesterday and Wal-mart is under water. A.O. Smith, Triton Boats and pretty much everything on this side of the river.
I had a friend who had to be rescued from her house in Peagram. She is okay but everything is a total loss.
Here I was whining about my measly 1" of water in my basement. I just didn't register the magnitude until I saw it with my own eyes.
I drove to work this morning and a 20 minute drive took me 2 hours

I work in West Meade, normally a 10 minute drive, and this morning it was over one hour to get here
because Hwy 100 is still the only open route coming
in from back off Old Harding. Found out my previous house had water to the roof.
Just beyond devastating. My friend called her mom in Florida to let her know she was okay and her mom didn't even know what was going on here!

What is like on I-65 from Madison going toward Huntsville? All clear? Heavy traffic? I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon from my school to meet Jill in Huntsville to go to WDW. Just wondering what to be prepared for, if anyone knows.

I am shocked to see how this was missed in the media. You guys have alot of damage and tons of cleanup. They are too busy chasing oil on the ocean...

My daughter's high school is sending buses with students out to help with removal of flood debris. They were in River Plantation in Bellevue today and she was shocked. They saw huge mounds of debris where people are tossing all of their furniture, clothing and just about everything else. It was so sad. People were approaching the bus as it drove in asking them for help.

She came home tired and dirty. Spent a lot of time shoveling wet dry wall.

As I saw some photos on the TV’s Weather Channel of those cars on the expressway flooded to the roof, I kept thinking to myself that I remember all that wide open area as we were driving down to Florida several times. I just couldn’t picture how much flood water there had to be to flood it like that.

And yes, comparing to other disasters Tennessee had NO coverage on this flood, very sad. I was supposed to attend a conference last week of May in the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and I was shocked to receive the E-mail stating that they are canceling ALL of the reservations for the next 90 days! I had no idea how bad the flooding is until I saw some pictures.

I hope that the whole country will step in and help to speed up the recovery so the life can return to it’s path as soon as possible. Just can’t call it normal since many had lost everything…

I just finished watching this and I am sitting here with tears running down my face. I think that most of us have been in shock and the tears will start as that wears off. I am not even a fan of country music but I am incredibly saddened by the image of the Grand Ole Opry under water.

Your welcome. It just makes me sick to see my beloved city & home so devastated. I did not grow up here but this place has always felt more like home than anywhere else. I am so lucky to not have any damage or even live in an immediate area where there is damage. My heart aches for all those that lost so much. There was a lady on the news last night who lost her daughter and husband in the flooding. The daughter got swept away by the water and the husband tried to get her...they are both gone now. I can't imagine how you recover from seeing that. It makes me cry just thinking of it.

My heart broke at that picture. I love country music...but its not the music. Its the history. That place had so much history. So many legends walked thru that door.


Yesterday I posted the blog & that video on my facebook. One of my cousins in MI reposted it. Then another cousin decided to make a joke..."They should have all moved to the mountains, its prettier there anyway"... I can't believe someone, especially family, would say something like that. I think thats why I'm so upset with the media. They have no idea what happened here because they haven't seen it. So they can crack jokes and blame it on ignorance. Honestly, even tho I've put it on facebook... most of my own family back home has no idea that it even happened

It was like that when Galveston TX got hit with a storm, they showed it the first few days then that was it. Not sure who is making these news decisions, but the public should be made aware of these things.

Fellow Tennessean here (Memphis) also feeling the losses in Nashville, a wonderful, beautiful city .....people here in west Tennessee are very concerned for you, even though Dyersburg and Millington also suffered great losses.

The pictures of Nashville are heartbreaking to us (spent lots of time there when DD was at Vandy Law).

I couldn't agree more! Being in New Orleans all we're hearing about is the oil spill. I'm just speechless as to why the media isn't giving this disaster the attention it so desperately deserves.

I've made a donation to the Red Cross and will continue to do whatever I can from here. Prayers for you all.
