NASCAR Fans - Official Countdown to Daytona 500 (Disney Pace cars pics! ) Thread

I'm very disappointed in this situation. After that crew member (dang, I can't remember his name) lost his wife and her two sisters last year to a drunk driver, it shocks me that he would be this stupid. Plus, he took off from the scene.

I don't know what they're going to do about this, but something needs to be done. I don't know how they can justify letting him race after something this serious.

of course, that's just my opinion!LOL

Kyle Petty, though, wondered why NASCAR didn't send a message.

"Drinking and driving is wrong. It's wrong, it's wrong, it's wrong," Petty said. "And if as a sport we condone it by turning our head and looking the other way, we are guilty by association.

I kind of agree with Kyle. His dad Richard made a promise to his mom many years ago that he would never have a beer sponsor on any of his cars. It's the reason Jeff Green is sitting out the Bud Shoot and why no Petty car every wins the money for getting a Bud Pole (although I can't remember when a Petty driver ever got a pole). Anyway, DUI/DWI is serious business. Wimmer is extremely lucky he did't kill someone. Wimmer says he wasn't driving a NASCAR at the time and his private life should be private but he knew what he was getting into when he signed to drive for NASCAR (the celebrity, etc). Driving when you have been drinking is just plain stupid. No excuses, no it was the first time, etc.

Wimmer said. "Twenty-eight years, one mistake, and it turned out to be a big mistake. It's something I'm definitely learning from.

This is something I learned early in the Air Force, one screw up messes up all the "Atta boys" you ever received. I think he should be suspended from racing until he completes alcohol rehab maybe even the entire season. Harsh I know but I really despise this kind of behavior.

It was Shawn Parker, crew chief for Dale Jarrett (88) who lost his wife, and two sisters-in law to a drunk driver in September 2003. I wonder what that team thinks of NASCAR's inaction on the Wimmer situation?

I'm glad you posted that. I was wondering why Green wasn't racing.
I too agree with Kyle, drinking and driving is very serious and should not be taken lightly. I hope NASCAR does something about this. I think they should take this opportunity to make a clear statement that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated.

The starting line up for the Bud Shoot Out (chosen by the luck of the draw) I do think it is interesting that with the exception of Gordon and Harvick all the favorites are starting at the very back ;) Makes me wonder how random the draw really was, seems like they want to increase the drama.

Speed is showing the two practice sessions again right now. Speed also reported that the Daytona 500 will have a special visitor - President Bush - guess he's working on wooing those NASCAR dads early ;)

I absolutely LOVE it!!! It will be the first time that a driver won the the BUD SHOOTOUT from the very LAST position!!!!

As for the President......I think that GWB is the best man for the job and I support him 1,000,000,000,000,000% That's 1 Quadrillion percent for those that are numerically challanged!

LET'S GO JR!!!!!!!!!!

LOL, thanks for clarifying because yes I am numerically challanged:D
DH was glued to the Speed channel last night.

LET'S GO STEWART!!!!!!!!!! ::yes::

Tony will be at the back of the pack and will have his work cut out for him, but, if he can manuever his car through traffic like he did with his little RC car (see Tori's post on page 6 for the link) he should come out on top :cool2: ....... Andy

:teeth: I sure hope so!

So, am I the only person deprived of the Speed channel on this thread? Wish I could watch all the fun racing stuff on there but it would cost another $15 a month with our digital cable and I just can't justify it for that much money (you get some other channels too but none that we really want). Guess I just have to live vicariously through you all :hyper: .

As far as Wimmer, I don't think he should be racing either. NASCAR should be suspending him until he goes to rehab and does whatever the court orders for him to get his license back.

Did you guys see this on Jayski:

Gibson Movie on #18 Hood: Norm Miller, chairman of Dallas-based Interstate Batteries, replaced his own company's hood-sized logo with an ad for "The Passion" on NASCAR driver Bobby Labonte's #18 Chevrolet. The car will carry the ad during the Daytona 500 race Feb. 15. Miller said he feels "privileged" to offer the giveaway publicity. Miller is yet another volunteer in an effort to turn "The Passion" into a success of biblical proportions. Many think a successful opening will encourage more Christian-themed movies — and win more souls. "We need this film to have the biggest opening on record," said the Web site catholicexchange.com.(Atlanta Journal Constitution)(2-5-2004)

I've been watching practice all morning and have yet to see the hood...Right now Bobby is in the garage so I guess I'll have to wait another day. I'm curious about what Bobby thinks of his sponsor's action. Think it's kind of interesting that a sponsor so believes the movie that he's willing to give it free publicity. Also makes you wonder will Bobby have some Divine help during the Daytona 500 ;)

No SPEED channel here either. What time does the shootout come on??

:D 2BeMarried,
I'm pretty sure it's 8:00EST on TNT.

The race starts at 8PM EST but the preshow begins at 7:30PM ;) Don't want to miss the preshow!

That's what I get when I let dh set my tv reminders ;) . I'll have to tell him to change it to 7:30. Thanks ToriLammy for the reminder.

UGH! Kyle Busch just won the Arca race, I don't like him or his brother. I can't believe he's only 18 years old- amazing.

Jr won the Shootout last year after starting last.

Anyone out there watching the race? It's been great so far. I have missed that edge of your seat, heart in your throat feeling. So glad it's racing season again ::yes:: !

Love the race.

Could do without some of the advertisements with warnings that "erections lasting more than 4 hours require immediate medical attention". My teenage son snickered and left the room.
