Hey all, hope you are enjoying the Holiday season. I know I said I'd wait until after the Holidays to post this thread but I have two reasons for posting sooner. One, I kind of miss you guys ;) Two, how many of you are aware of the Disney/NASCAR deal? I had heard about it, especially since Jeff Gordon was the one to unveil the car but I hadn't seen any pictures. I went looking today and found some really cool Diecast cars. (But no picture of Jeff and the Disney Car)

Here's the blurb from Jayski.com about the deal:

M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E at D-A-Y-T-O-N-A: Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck will lead the parade lap before next year's Daytona 500 under terms of a new deal between International Speedway Corp. and the Walt Disney Co., today's Sports Business Daily reports. Editor-at-Large Terry Lefton says the joint licensing program will put the Disney logos on two Chevrolet Monte Carlos leading the field. The program also will combine Daytona 500 logos with Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and Peg Leg Pete. Diecast cars from Team Caliber will also be sold in hobby stores, through trackside vendors and on QVC and NASCAR.com. Apparel licensees include Kudzu for caps and Jerry Leigh for women's and children's clothing. Paul Phipps, ISC's vice president for sales and marketing, is projecting $20 million to $25 million in wholesale sales for the venture, which the story says is initially for a single year. A "Road to Daytona" mobile marketing program will include five Monte Carlos with Disney art on them, along with a 53-foot merchandise trailer.

You can go to NASCAR.com and check out the cars and other items available. (I have no skill at putting pictures in messages on here - sorry - maybe one of you is better at it). I hope there is some kind of sweepstake so I can try and win one. I have two diecasts so far (8 and an autographed 12) and will only add to my collection if I can win them :) Okay so I'm cheap - what can I say - I'd rather save my money for a Disney Trip.

Also found out that Ben Affleck will be the Grand Marshall for the Daytona 500. Wonder if Jenny from the Block will be joining him ;)

Okay, that's the news for now. I'm hoping we can keep this thread on the front page (or near it) until the Daytona 500. Even if it just means popping in to say Hi ;) So NASCAR Fans are you up to the challenge?

WOW! Thanks for the info. I hadn't heard about that. I can't wait for Daytona....It's like a kid waiting for Christmas!;)

Thanks for the update. I must go and look at nascar.com to see what they have. It is very hard to wait. Sundays are so boring now!!

I hadn't heard about this yet. Thanx for posting it. I did know about Ben being Grand marshal though as well as the date being moved up to feb. 5th. DH and i are thrilled that we'll have 2 weeks less of withdrawl this year instead of being stuck till Presidents Weekend.

Feb 5th? Or is that a typo? The Daytona 500 is Feb 15th. One bit of news I did find out is the Bud Shoot Out will be Saturday, Feb 7th instead of being on a Sunday -- they are going to run it under the lights on Saturday night. Should be interesting. And just incase anyone is wondering here's who is running in the Shoot Out -

Drivers that have secured spots by winning poles this season include McMurray, Jeff Green, Dave Blaney, Bobby Labonte, Ryan Newman, Elliott Sadler, Jeremy Mayfield, Jeff Gordon, Terry Labonte, Steve Park, Jimmie Johnson, Boris Said, Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick and Mike Skinner.

Past winners already in the field are Dale Earnhardt Jr., Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, Ken Schrader, Bill Elliott and Dale Jarrett.

I'm of course hoping Gordon wins but will be pulling for Road Course Specialist Boris Said to make a good effort at it. I like Boris ;)

15th huh?

Well, I don't make mistakes like that, so the typo is MSNBC's. That's the station i was on when i read the crawl about Ben. Shhh... don't tell DH.

I'm very excited about the Disney/Nascar connection and wonder why they didn't get involved sooner. Do you think part of it is Disney not wanted to be associated with tobacco? Whatever the reason we're really looking forward to the new season starting! I was really happy to see this thread started. Thanks!

DH got a very nice Daytona 500 hat at the Miami Homestead Speedway, it is silver and has Mickey and the gang on it. I think it is pretty cool that Disney is getting envolved.

Now I just hope Rusty will get a crew chief that he will actually work ok with. Something needs to happen with this team.

Can't wait for NASCAR to begin. Hopefully this year we'll be able to go to Daytona. That's on our "wish" list this year! Hopefully Santa will be nice this year! ;)

Here are some of the items ToriLammy was talking about. Only 47 days until the Shootout!!!! Go Junior!!!!!

Thank you Adam ;) I knew someone could post the pictures! I want the Mickey Car since blue is my favorite color and my daughter thinks the Minnie Car is so cool and of course purple is her fave. Imagine if Disney were to sponsor a car full time! I hope this is the start of a long and beautiful relationship - two of my favorites together - nice!

Hey Guys :wave2:

I was so excited when I read about Disney/NASCAR on Jayski's site. I said the same thing to my DH, Disney and NASCAR, two of my favorite things - YIPPEE!

What did everyone think of the banquet and the drivers on Regis and Kelly cooking? I enjoyed both but I did fall asleep during the banquet. It was alittle long.

What did everyone think of the banquet

This was the first banquet I've ever seen and heard. Up till i got married i bowled on Friday nights so I've seen other banquets but never heard them b4. Tis just my opinion, but I didn't miss anything. They need a new host for starters. Darrell Waltrip would be fun.

The banquet was okay. Bobby Labonte not mentioning his sponsors was kind of funny, especially when all the drivers after him made comments about how long his list was ;) Kevin Harvick should stick with racing, his attempt at humor bombed big time. You could actually hear the groan of the audience when he made his Ricky Rudd comment. I think that you really have to be a NASCAR fan to be able to watch the banquet, it's kind of boring really. They probably could use a new host and I agree Darrell Waltrip might be a good choice ;)

I missed Monday on Regis and Kelly so I guess I missed Matt. Saw Johnson, Gordon, Stewart and Harvick. The only one who really seemed to have made the item they were cooking before was Harvick (His Sunday morning waffles, which I guess his wife gets every Sunday). Stewart's mom calling during his segment was a nice touch ;)

 Hi all,
Thanks for the info on the Disney/Daytona 500 connection -- too cool ::yes:: .

I liked the banquet. Thought Jr. was pretty funny. I also liked watching the guys on Regis and Kelly (missed a few though). Tony Stewart cracked me up because he seemed like he hadn't cooked a thing in his life :D !

Happy holidays everyone. I hope Santa brings you all some NASCAR goodies ;) .

:Pinkbounc
Six weeks from tonight we'll have just finished watching the Bud Shoot out - with either Gordon or Boris Said winning ::yes:: (She says hopefully.)

Seven weeks until the Daytona 500. It actually sounds closer that way. :Pinkbounc

Hope everyone's enjoying the holidays. Did you get anything NASCAR related? I got a calendar, Gordon is January so I'm skipping the last 6 days of December and his picture is hanging up in my kitchen now. By the way Jr is featured in Dec, was wondering if the calendar publisher was sending some kind of hopeful message since December is the month of the Championship banquet :teeth:
