I finally got to do my proper wedding dress shopping today :cool1: and I've managed to narrow my selection down to two Maggie Sottero dresses:

Ambrosia

Allyssa

(Unfortunately it's rare to find a dress store in Australia that will let you take photos of the dresses until you've ordered it, we took some sneaky photos which I will post in my PJ, but you can't really see the dresses in them properly, so I'm sticking to using the web site pics)

I love both dresses :lovestruc but they both have pros and cons:

Ambrosia
Pros - Has all of the details I was looking for in a dress, looks awesome, made FMIL cry, that sort of thing.

Cons - if I want to buy this dress in Australia, it's going to cost me $3500 :scared1:

Allyssa
Pros - Suits my body type just a smidgen better then Ambrosia, costs more then $1000 less then Ambrosia, I don't feel like I would be "settling" for this dress if I were to buy it.

Cons - I really like the lace inset that ambrosia, and a bunch of other dresses that I tried on has, however this one doesn't have it. Of the people who were helping me look, only one of them prefered this dress over the other (I obviously don't know which one I prefer, or I wouldn't be typing this...)

So, my question to all the lovely Dis Brides out there, is which do you think I should go with?? :lmao:

I prefer the second one personally! If you have the figure to pull it off then this dress would look stunning. It's really beautiful and the money you'd save could go towards something else to make your day even more magical!!

But they are both lovely dresses and I'm sure you'll look gorgeous whichever you choose.

I prefer the first it is similar to mine so i'm bias though.

I like the second one best, and if it is more flattering to your figure, I'd probably go with that, but that's just me and that dress is more similar to my dress. I also think that the $1k could be put towards the wedding or honeymoon.

Could you go and try them on again? Maybe if you went alone or with just 1 other person, and just had some time in the dresses you can see which one you really prefer.

It's so hard when you are torn between dresses. I am in the same precidament at the moment too.

I prefer the 2nd dress. I think halter necks are more flattering and I would be thinking about the cost difference too. If I were you I would go and try them on again and let your heart lead you.

So I am not a DISbride but I do love helping with weddings. I just recently helped a friend with hers. Her dress was strapless and she was constantly tugging at it to stay up. I am sure some of that may have been a fitting issue. But I second the idea of spending a little time in the dress. Walk around the shop, etc and see if you find yourself pulling and tugging at it. With the halter, you wouldn't have that trouble..... Just a different perspective!!
Good luck!!

Ambrosia it is...it's obvious this is YOUR dress...you keep mentioning it...even in your cons of the other dress...No brainer...Ambrosia it is!:thumbsup2

It's so hard!!! :guilty:

I think subconsiously I must be leaning towards Ambrosia, because if I really did like them both equally, then surely the price thing would make the decision for me... :confused3

$1000 is so much money, if I went with Ambrosia, I'd probably have to say goodbye to a MK photo shoot, and really, there's nothing wrong with Allyssa...

The dress shop is 4 hours away, so it's not just a quick duck over to the shop to try them on again sort of thing.

Also, and this is my fault for leaving it so late :rolleyes1 - they take 6 months to make, and my wedding is in 8 months, plus with the Christmas break nothing gets done in December and January, which would mean it would be arriving in February, and I'd then need some slight adjustments, and we fly out on the 22nd of Feb :scared: So in other words I really need to be ordering it now!

Ahh, it's so hard, but at least here I can lay out my thoughts...

Does anyone know of a reputable online store that sells MS dresses? They seem so much cheaper in the states that I think it's worthwhile buying it from there, but I don't want to find that I get a cheap knockoff, I want the real thing.

Also, what's the site where you can go and find out if there have been any complaints about an online store? I know I've looked it up before, but now I've got no idea what it is! :rotfl:

After reading this i would definately go for the least expensive of the two. No way would i give up an MK shoot!

I think I'm going to let fate decide.

If I can order the dress online from the US, then I'll go with Ambrosia, if I have to buy it from a store here, I'll go with Allyssa

this face you use  does not convince me you're in love with Allyssa...just saying...

I like the second one. A) I'm motivated by price. And wouldn't want to give up the MK Shoot. B) I think its a beautiful dress. And C) Cause its not strapless. Personally, I hate watching girls constantly "tug" on strapless dresses all day.

Both dresses are beautiful but if money was no object then the 1st dress definitely has the extra 'wow' factor! :)
