I read somewhere on the boards the other day that there was a Narnia attraction at MGM. Can someone fill me in on this?

Its not much of an "attraction."

Its in one large room.
Its a bit of the movie set re-built.
They play some movie trailer clips and you can see some of the costumes (there is an Animatronic figure up on a balcony of the witch, modeling her outfit.)

You can walk past few props, set drawings and the like, then you exit.

Yes, it's called "Journey into Narnia: Creating the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". Here's some information from Allearsnet:

Journey Into Narnia: Creating The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe -- Located on Mickey Avenue in one of the Soundstages, this walkthrough exhibit opened December 9, 2005, to coincide with the opening of the movie, Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

Report filed by AllEarsNet.com's Graphics Artist, Sam Cridlin:

You enter an interior queue (think Muppet's preshow), the lights dim and a narrator tells the story. Queue dramatic lighting and fog. The Wardrobe opens and you enter the frozen Narnia, including the lamp post and a 20' movie screen. Snow white squishy carpet and towering snow-covered pines abound. The White Witch (right) appears above declaring war on Aslan, then she fades from view.

A movie trailer plays on the screen. Narrator skips the entire plot of the movie with an "Aslan wins." Cue more dramatic lighting, and you see around the corner the thawed Narnia with squishy brown carpet and towering pines. There are some maquettes, costumes and other props. You exit.

The downside is that there is no physical separation between frozen and thawed Narnia, so there's only the preshow room and the show room to hold guests -- you're at the mercy of the groups ahead of you, with only two cycles of about 75 people in the stage at a time. There is no videotaping or flash photography allowed.

Hope that helps! :)

It's the making of the movie, like a long advertisement and some props. I loved this entire series of books and have since I first read them in the 4th grade. I think Disney did a fabulous job with the movie, I was blown away. But this attraction let me down. Maybe I was hoping for too much.

You can see video on YouTube, just search on MGM Narnia

thank you all for responding! My son is a big Narnia fan. I guess we'll have to see what the wait time is like to decide whether it's worth it!

The way they described it on the park map was like it's everything fantastic. I was mad that we wasted time on it. It's the same preview you see in theatres just extended.

We tried it right after it opened...waste of time. We loved the movie, but I felt like I was watching a movie review show.

I am going to have to put in a bad report for this so called "attraction". Basically all it is, is just a longer extended movie promo...something Disney can make money off of. I'd be happier if it was like a little journey into the wardrobe...or a mini-ride.

:welcome: to posting on the DISboards!!

While I agree that its not much of an "attraction," I would not chalk it up as "making money," per se.

Narnia is far past its prime as a money-maker, even on the DVD front.

Guess our family is in the minority then, we all thought it was great! We even went to see it twice!

We knew up front it wasn't an "attraction" or "ride" so we weren't expecting anything like that, but for what it is, it was nicely done. As stated before, you enter through the wardrobe door into the snowy woods (ok, one funny part is that we all said it was like the bavarian tree place in Yankee Candle  ) and watch the trailor on a big screen. The trailor also promotes the new movie coming out next year, Prince Caspian. Oh, and the White witch is a real actor, not a projection, so that was kind of neat. Then you go to a second room to see props and stuff.

I don't know, I guess we're dorks 'cause like I said, we saw it twice :confused3 and liked it both times.

Another vote here for NOT considering it an atraction.
I also loved Narnia, but it is really alog trailer in a nicely decorated room. Big let down, I expected that something else happened after the trailer... they just opened the doors to exit and see a very small exhibit :confused3
I guess it is worth trying if there is a 0 min waiting.

Now, I will say it would be disappointing to wait a long time to get in but I totally enjoyed it. In fact ... I bought the DVD just because of going thru the display/attraction. :thumbsup2

And when you exit ... if it is still there ... there was a little Narnia scene outside (outdoors) where you could pose and take a picture and in the morning when we were there ... real snow was coming out around the scene. It was cool (literally!).

Just another note - though it isn't horribly long - you do stand thru the video - no seats.

I thought I was viewing the pre-show. I was looking forward to the REAL attraction as I exited!!! I found myself outside . . . show over. It is not worth waiting for.:sad2:

What in the world made you think that was an animatronic. That is a real person. In fact starting in a few months the witch is going to be replaced with prince caspian. (who i have heard will also be doing actual meet and greets)

Narnia blew in every way imaginable. No other ways around it....

When I saw her, I assumed she WAS a real person (a CM.)

But I have since read several posts saying she was a "robot animatronic figure."

I was so UNIMPRESSED with the whole thing that I figured that I just must not have noticed that she was mechanical.

If she's a CM or a moving automaton, I couldn't care less... and likely neither could anybody else for as little as she actually DOES and for such a short time that she is there.

How can one CM do both the "standing on the balcony" bit AND Meet & Greets?
I guess they will only run the Narnia "attraction" for very limited hours and release the poor guy into the crowd the rest of his shift.

the white witch did meet & greets in Disneyland to promote the film. perhaps she'll do them when Prince Caspian is released, who knows..

she looks a bit wide in this pic (i think it's the outfit), but she's real
