Looks like Disney is determined not to miss anyone:
As is now the custom, Walt Disney and music label EMI are planning to get Narnia-branded CD albums into music outlets well in advance of the movie's December release. While it is increasingly common to release both inspired-by-the-film pop albums and actual film scores separately, Disney plans to go one step further and put no fewer than four different albums into the hands of Narnia fans. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe promises to appeal to a wide variety of moviegoers, and the Mouse does not intend to miss out on any potential sales opportunities.

While details are still forthcoming, it appears, according to reports at NarniaFans.com and Yahoo Movies, that we can expect two separate pop albums, one compilation of children's music, and the theatrical soundtrack to reach music retailers this fall under the Narnia title.

One pop CD will consist solely of Christian pop artists, targeting the large religious demographic that is expected to watch the fantasy film en masse this winter. EMI has signed on some of the biggest names in the genre for this release, including Newsboys, Steven Curtis Chapman, Delirious, and Jars of Clay (whose 1995 mainstream hit "Flood" should be familiar to most radio listeners).

A second CD, also produced by EMI, will feature more mainstream pop and rock artists. No list of participants has been announced yet.

Walt Disney Records is producing the other two albums: one, the instrumental soundtrack from the film, as scored by composer Harry Gregson-Williams (Kingdom of Heaven, Man on Fire); and the other, some kind of music CD targeted at children.

Disney is planning a staggered release of the four discs. Singles and music videos may appear in August, followed by the Christian album on September 27th and the mainstream pop album on October 25th.

"I would have to say that for both [Disney] and for me personally, this is clearly the broadest breadth of music merchandising that we've ever been involved in," admitted Mitchell Leib, the president of Disney's soundtrack division. If the Narnia discs are successful, perhaps we can expect to see more 3 and 4-album releases accompanying other major films in the future.
Walden Media vice-president Lindsay Fellows stressed that their first priority in releasing the two pop albums was to uphold the legacy of writer C.S. Lewis and his Narnia books. How Walden, Disney, and EMI intend to complement the children's fantasy epic with pop music is not clear.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the beloved tale of four English children who stumble into a fantasy world cursed by a wicked witch, opens in theaters around the world on December 9th.

The first project, a soundtrack of original songs inspired by the film featuring Christian artists is scheduled to be released on Sept. 27. The artists who will be participating on this album include:

· Steven Curtis Chapman
· tobyMac
· Nichole Nordeman
· Jars of Clay
· newsboys
· Jeremy Camp
· Rebecca St. James
· Chris Tomlin
· Delirious?
