I'm sure we are going to be hungry after a long day of travel and starting our vacation. We will not be going to a park this day and I want to eat somewhere nice for our arrival night and currently have a 7pm ADR for Boma or a 7:30 ADR for Narcoossee's. We will have our children with us who are very behaved in restraunts and enjoy going out to dinner. With Narcoossee's I've read that there is a water light show? If our ADR is 7:30 will we be able to view this during our meal? I'm leaning more towards this one at the moment as I am not too sure the fam would enjoy the food at Boma. That and I don't really like buffets with having to get up and down, I'd rather be served. I'm not sure I would like Boma all that much either since I keep hearing it's all so sweet and spiced, etc...

Or is there some other place you'd recommend for us? We will be on the DxDP and currently have non park dinner ADRs for Jiko, California Grill, Flying Fish and Ohana. Thanks for any input, it's appreciated!

I think you've pretty much answered your own question! I personally love Boma, it's the only buffet I enjoy, other then the Tusker House Character Breakfast buffet. Boma has enough typical American and children food offerings in the event you didn't like the African specialties but if you don't like buffets, why bother.

After a day of travel Boma may be a little too loud and boisterous, Narcosees will be a little more relaxin and you can just sit down and be served! You and the kids may enjoy Ohana's Too!

I would ditch Narcoossee's for Citrico's, the food is so much better at Citricos

Narcoossee's has a view of the fireworks, but not from all tables. There is a deck that you can go on outside when the show begins.

Personally I'd do Boma. I love the food and don't mind the busy atmosphere but you know your family better than I do. Another reason I'd go with Boma is that the AKL is a nice place to relax a little either before or after eating. There will be a fire going in the indoor fire pit, there are little African cultural demonstrations that they do in a small room off the lobby, and of course you can go out and see the savanna if it is still light (which it will be at 7 depending on when you travel).

I would take the safe option and go with Narcoosee. What a lovely way to start your vacation. Plus, get your money's worth with the dining plan :)

We used to do Boma every vacation for our arrival night because we are so hungry after coming from the left coast with an entire travel day. But Boma is so noisy and chaotic that we have stopped doing it. Still love Boma, just not on the arrival night as we prefer something a little less stressful.

Narcoosees is quite nice for children. There are great views from the windows, the place has a casual relaxed vibe to it.

I am still torn...though leaning a little bit more towards Narcoossee's at this point even with the mixed reviews. I'm not sure about Citricos with the kidlets?? When we go to Jiko the older two are going to Simbas so we've made that our grown up night in a way ;)

In regards to this water show I keep reading about, does anyone know what time it starts? If our ADR is 7:30 would we run into that? I'm not really interested in the fireworks as much as the other. Thanks guys!

We chose Boma for the day we arrive for this reason and also because I wanted to stick to using 1 credit that evening. The menu did appeal to us though, they had me at coconut curry soup and zebra domes.:yay: Can't really justify the cost of staying at AKL at this point, so we are just visiting for the evening!

The water light show is the Electrial Water Pagent that goes around the lake. Think its on after the fireworks are done at MK but i've only ever caught a quick look when waiting for the bus after the fireworks so thar my only basis. They play music and little boats all done up go around the lake.

Since you're not going to a park and you can't take resort transportation to other resorts without first transferring somewhere, I think a spot outside the Magic Kingdom (since you can hop on the monorail loop a short walk from the bus stops) or Downtown Disney would be your best places to look for restaurants.

In my opinion, save yourself the little extra bit of travel time and go to Downtown Disney, instead. There's plenty more to do there than in the Grand Floridian, and lots of different and fun restaurants.

Sure, you'll miss out on the Electrical Water Pageant (which normally passes by the Grand Floridian sometime around 9:00 PM, by the way), but you'll find so much more to do.

As far as dining in that area is there something you'd suggest that is on the dining plan? We'd like a nice, sit down meal.

Sorry for the late reply. For a nice, sit down meal (something not too noisy and a little laid back, I assume?) I'd suggest either Portobello or the Wolfgang Puck Cafe. Fulton's is also quite nice, but depending on where you're seated, might feel a little cramped. It has a great atmosphere, though.
