Family of four (13, 18) going for five days in mid-August. What started out as a beach vacation at South Padre Island (TX) for a week has morphed into a Yacht Club Resort vacation with a couple of park-hopper days and a couple of water park days. We've all been before when the kids were 5 & 10. Not going to the Magic Kingdom at all during those five days until the last night when we have the following tentative evening schedule:

6;00 p.m. - Narcoossee's at the Grand Floridian
7:30ish - Magic Kingdom
9:20 - California Grill for desert
10:00 - Wishes

First of all, how would we get to the GF and how long will it take? I know 1.5 hrs at the MK seems very limiting, but all we're going to want to do by that time is walk around a little bit and ride a couple of rides (e.g., Haunted Mansion, PotC). I'm presuming we can ride the monorail between the GF and the MK and subsequently between the MK and the Contemporary Resort will easy and, what, 10 minutes travel time? Finally, I'm presuming we can take a cab from the CR straight to the Yacht Club after Wishes for the idea of connecting via the transportation hub just makes be tired. Thoughts, comments appreciated.

Figure about 60 minutes if using Disney transport. You need to take a bus from YC to MK then board the resort monorail to the Grand. You can also take a taxi from YC to MK and in that case it will take roughly 15 minutes. Monorail-wise, MK to GF is about 20 minutes (GF to MK is less than 5) and MK to CR is less than 5.

It will be faster to walk from MK to CR. From CR, walk back to the bus loading area for the bus back to YC. No need to deal with the Monorail at the end of your evening and you don't have to deal with the TTC at all.

Something that hit me after posting this was this is a perfect opportunity for the grown-ups to have a nice meal and the kids can spend extra time in the MK if they want. What would happen if our rezzies for four serendipitously turns into a table for two?

It would be fine! :) The CMs become concerned only when you attempt to add more people upon arrival.

We just got back from a trip staying at the YC and ate at 'Ohana at the Poly. We actually walked through Epcot and took the monorail to the TTC then switched to the resort monorail to go to the Poly. From leaving our room to getting to the 'Ohana lobby was exactly one hour and we had my grandmother in a wheelchair to push. It is a bit of a hike to get to the front of Epcot, but I prefer that to waiting for a bus.

If your party of 4 turns into a party of 2, you will be charged $10 for each person not there, so a $20 fee.

Have fun!

There is no fee charged if at least one member of the party arrives for the reservation. The $10 per person fee only applies to a no show by the complete party.

Thanks, everyone. I'm looking forward to a more laid-back trip this time around with not having to keep taps on a 5 & 10 YO.

Sounds like a great plan. The only issue I can see, is that even if you have a CG res., and it's crowded, which it normally is at that time, you may not be seated until late. You may be seated about the time wishes starts. Everyone likes late reservations there. People with earlier reservations sit around and drink and wait for the fireworks to start. We were seated 45 minutes late once, and we arrived 20 minutes early.
