OK, I'm thinking about getting the whole lobster instead of the surf & turf. However, I haven't had a whole lobster in years. Am I going to look like an idiot trying to tackle that thing & figure out how to eat it? Any pointers from you coastal people?

I just had the whole lobster this past weekend at Narcoosee's. They crack and split it for you so it is easy to take apart and eat. Don't worry, order and enjoy!

Will I get as full on the whole lobster as I would on the surf & turf? I don't think my DH is going to want to share his steak with me! Of course, I also want to have plenty of room for the almond crusted cheesecake...

oh, i had the whole lobster twice last october! it was delicious!

as well as the almond crusted cheesecake - if i was too full, i planned to take that dessert "to go", it's soooooo good!

I was thinking of ordering that on an upcoming trip so I googled how to eat it. There were some very good instructions but I got a bit repulsed... they had pics and everything tho. Might want to try it out!

Simple!
Step 1. Pull off the little legs first and suck out the tiny bits of meat. (think of this step as the appetizer:rotfl: )
Step 2. Break off the BIG claws and eat the yummy sweet meet out of them (don't forget to break the knuckles!:scared1: delightful!)
Step 3. Here is the BEST part...enjoy and savor the most fabulous part...the tail. :faint:
Step 4...This step is NOT for the faint hearted...hardcore lobster eaters only participate in this step..crack open the body and pick/eat all the tiny little lobster pieces. This is can be very time consuming..and not nearly as satifying as the lobster tail extravaganza..and definately not something you partake in on a first date....but nonetheless...a wonderful finale to the lobster eating process. ;)

*Note: Nice dining establishments normally take all the 'leg-work' out of eating lobster for folks...It will likely arrive at your table all cracked and ready for you to enjoy. So please do so! *

Just us folks up here in New England consider Lobsta-eatin a sport. :thumbsup2

Thanks! I grew up visiting my papa in New England each summer & going to the lobster boils. But, it's been a good 20 years since I've done that & I figure I probably forgot it all!

MERCY! MERCY!

I am so hungry now I could die!
WAH! I WANT LOBSTER NOW.

Maybe I can console myself with some dungeness crab and hard cider tonight...

We ate there and three of us had the worst lobster dinner we have ever had. The lobster was tough and dry. It looked like the lobster was broiled instead of boiled. I love Narcossee's but this was terrible.:confused3

I eat there on every visit and get the whole lobster. There is nothing to learn. It is cracked and all of the waste is throw out. You just eat everything that is there. No problem. I have never had a dried out lobster. They are delicious. It is very filling, the bread is delicious. You can substitute veggies and potatoe for what is on the menu. The surf and turf is also good.

Two questions:
1. A lobster really has 'knuckles':rotfl:? I didn't know that.

2. No way am I eating the guts of a lobster:eek: . I notice they also bring the head out with that thing. Any idea why? I may eat steak, but I don't want to look the cow in the eye while I'm eating it, same thing with pork, I don't want to see his face. Why would I want to look the lobster in the eye, while I'm trying to eat him?

OT: I got a crab sandwich down there one time and the thing had little legs sticking out of it. I know I turned green, as I asked the waiter to take it back.

Eat as much dinner as you can but save room for the almond crusted cheesecake!
