How many people would go back to the hotel for a nap if you didn't have kids? I am the type of person who does not like sleep at all, so I couldn't imagine wasting precious park time sleeping in my hotel.

How about you?

When me and my bf went in May 2004, we didn't go back for a nap or a swim. But if we see that one of us is getting cranky, we do suggest a break. (But I hate BREAKS!!!!!)

On my one trip with dh before kids, we were at WDW for four days. I did not want to go back to the room AT ALL, but dh did. That was in August, and the heat can certainly get to you.

On our trips with the kids when they were younger, we took breaks everyday. Our trips are also longer now - ranging from 7-12 days.

Now that our kids are past napping age, we still go back to the room for a meal (since we have a kitchen). We usually just relax, sleep, or swim for a few hours and then head back to the parks.

If I took a trip w/out kids at this point, I would probably go ahead and take the break unless my trip was less than 5 days.

DW and I went in Jan for our 15th anniv.
There were no crowds or traffic so we had time to take a break from the parks.
We took a "break"  nearly everyday since we were sans kids.

It was great.

My brother, mom and dad and I (all adults) always take a break through out the day. Grab an ice cream cone and watch people pass by. Go to one of the sit down shows. Take longer lunches, etc. We are the ones who are there are the gate before the park opens and one of the ones who are the last to leave. But have never going back to the hotel seems like a waist inless you are the ones who like to take naps or have little ones.

Yeah, I agree. I like to sit back and relax in the parks, but I have never found the urge to go back to my hotel until the end of the night.

However, I do like to set a personal day aside where we sleep in and then visit all the hotels and DTD, then maybe play some mini-golf and end the day at Jellyrolls :)

Sometimes toward the end of our trip we need a little nap. ;) We also enjoy hanging out at our resort. It depends on the crowds. We like to go during the off season so if we start early in the morning we can cover alot by 3 so we go back to the resort relax & then head back out around 6.

I am not planning on going back to the resort during the day. I don't think I can pull my legs out of the parks to rest. I think if I get tired I will just sit get a cold drink and rest a few minutes!!! :goodvibes

I don't even do this with the kids! We've been to WDW several times now, so don't feel the need to go "commando" anyway. We spend some time in the parks, and some time enjoying the "non-park" things too. If we are planning on going to a park, we do tend to spend the whole day there with no afternoon break.

:moped: :moped: I think of myself as a high energy person. and I have in the past planned a full boogie trip. but I have also spent nights soaking my aching feet and rubbing my sore legs and in pain at the parks because of my back hurting. It turns out that as you edge - just slightly - past 50 :rotfl: keeping up the pace is a little more difficult. :tilt: :tilt: I also have found myself envying the people in the resorts who seem to be enjoying themselves so much as they relax around the pool with little umbrella beverages or those scooting around on little boats on the water.
So this time we are going for an extra day and I have built into the plan specific hours for resort time and relaxing. I am hoping we will have more fun and be more refreshed and relaxed. I am sure if we were in our 20's or 30's we would be zooming around too. but this time my husband is taking the surfing classes and we are going to take the segway tour around epcot and just enjoy teh magic! :wizard: :wizard:

DH and I LOVE going back to the hotel in the afternoons for breaks. Sometimes naps, sometimes swimming, sometimes just exploring the resort. We usually go at an off time with lower crowds and stay 9 to 14 days so there is plenty of time for everything. We do plan which parks on which days and make plenty of ADRs, but when we get there we try to really relax and have fun

Actually...I think that is one of the nice things about being a frequent WDW guest....when it is hot and we get tired we CAN go back and enjoy our lovely resort...without feeling like we are going to miss something...especially in the heat...a return to the resort, to that lovely 2BR COOL villa at OKW beats another long line hands down...call me a veteran napper and proud of it!!

In the cooler months I often enjoy spending the entire day in the parks, but still plan a "parkless" day or 2 per trip....if all I was going to do is sleep and shower in my room then the HoJo's down the street for $29/night would be all I needed for a hotel.

DH on the other hand almost never wants to go back to the room for a siesta or rest....claims he prefers to keep going...however my favorite WDW picture of all times is one taken by my oldest DD....she was waiting in line for Splash Mtn one afternoon with some of her friends when the train pulls out of frontierland station and she managed a priceless shot of her dear ole Dad, sitting on the train sound asleep, mouth open!!!

He still claims it must have been an identical twin from which he was seperated at birth!!

When it's just DH and myself, we go to WDW to relax, rest and get refreshed to face "real life" again. If that requires an afternoon nap at the resort, so be it. We also enjoy movies (which we rarely do here), swimming, quiet dining, shopping, people watching, mini golf, just to name a few of the "other than park" activities we enjoy. Anything that fulfulls the "3 R's". That's the thing we discovered about Disney World, it's so much more than the parks, even though we do allot of that too.

I love to rest mid day at least half the days of the trip. We do Epcot in the evenings, so going to "chill out" for a few hours then heading out to eat and do a few more hours at Epcot works well for us.

We're trying to find a happy medium. The first few days we don't want breaks, but then by day 4 or 5, we're wishing we could take a day off. And in the past we've done so. but this time we're going to try "rest a little each day" with a spa day in the middle of the week and see if we come home feeling both like we've been on vacation and HAD a vacation, instead of returning to work in need of a vacation!

we go off season so our breaks consist of a long lesurely sit down lunch. i hate any and all naps no matter where i am:)

My husband and I don't have kids, so it's just the two of us and we love going back for breaks. We might nap (though usually not), but we rest and enjoy the resort. We generally take fairly long trips (12 nights this year) and we like taking things slow. Plus, we usually stay at the BW, so it's really easy to get back to Epcot or MGM.

Dh and I ALWAYS take a break each day. I will usually take a nap and Dh will go to the gym. I think it is important to relax and not go home tired (and Dh thinks it's important to go to the gym on a regular basis :smooth: )

I wouldn't. Without kids I can usually run around like mad for about 4 days straight before starting to wear out. Then when that happens it's water park day.

With kids we tried the whole "going back to the room for a break" thing last year, and boy what a hassle. It was totally exhausting to load up the strollers and the kids, catch the tram/monorail/whatever, drive back to the resort, walk all the way up the room, and then load everything up again and head all the way back to the park. I've found that it's much more relaxing to just find a bench or a restaurant to sit down in for a few minutes to take a break than go through all that hassle.

We go off season too, so less crowds...we do enjoy everything WDW has to offer...not just the parks. Some days we go back in the afternoon for drinks by the pool...or a spa treatment...or just back to the room for relaxation, a bubble bath a bottle of champagne and well you know :love2: before a romantic dinner. We usually start heading back to the hotel around 4 ish...enough time to relax have a cocktail, claen off the theme park grime and get dressed up and pretty for dinner.

DH and I (no kids) LOVE to nap mid afternoon! We are early risers to the park so after 4-5 hours and the parks getting busy, we are ready to chill for a few hours. We have done the commando routine and by the trip home we're exhausted...actually, when we travelled with friends to WDW a few years ago, they (novices) didn't want to rest at all and I came home exhausted!

With DTD, the resorts, etc there is so much to explore so you could go 24-7 if you wanted to...I want to be rested when I come home to my busy, stressful job!
