I just booked a budget trip to Naples over Memorial Day weekend. We got great airfare into Ft. Lauderdale through Spirit Airline's $9 club ($141 round trip from Chicago for 3 people!), booked a La Quinta with a corporate rate of $42/night and rented a car for $11/day. Fantastic prices all around. Now, we plan on hitting the beach and walking around town a little. We will have our 5 year old with us. Any other suggestions of what to do there besides r&r?

Ft. Lauderdale? That's quite a ride from Naples. Take Alligator Alley over, of course. It's a nice ride and you stand the real chance of seeing some pretty interesting wild life.

There is an airboat place on Alligator Alley. You may enjoy stopping there for an airboat tour of a portion of the Everglades.

The beaches are nice. Tin City is fun to visit if you like to shop and poke around in little curiosity type shops.

There are some nice places for kids in Ft. Myers about 45 minutes north of Naples. Edison Home is there and nice too.

There is the opportunity to take a high speed catamaran into the Keys (from Ft. Myers Beach and maybe still out of Naples).

What nice places are there for the kids in Ft Myers? I live in Cape Coral & there really isn't much for the kids in Ft Myers. Yeah there is the Edison Home, but that may be about it. Honestly, kids do not really like that, the parents do... There is the Skatidium, but you wouldn't drive from Naples to FM to go skating

Naples has a small water park that is fairly new. I have never been there but it sounds nice when they advertise it.

There are beaches (as you said).

There is shopping....

There is the Zoo as another poster mentioned.

There are airboat rides in the Naples area if I remember correctly, you don't have to do them in the Everglades, but since the Everglades aren't toooo far from Naples, you can do it there.

There are places to go Kayaking in some areas too.

Did you mean Labor Day or did you really book a trip for next May already? Plan to spend a lot of time on the beach collecting shells. Get some good water sandals though because the beaches around there are full of shells and they can be sharp.

Do you have unlimited mileage on your car? You have a long ride to/from the airport to get to Naples.

The beaches and shopping are the things to do in Naples.

My family and I go to Naples every time a Hurricane is coming our way (for some reason, it seems to be the only place in FL safe from hurricanes! Knock on wood!). There's a fun little resturant called St. George and the Dragon that's medieval themed and has great British pub food (if you're into that!)

Regardless, Naples is a beautiful area and you got a great deal!

Well, there is the Imaginarium, and the planetarium and there is Big Cypress Slough... any child I've ever taken to the Edison house really enjoyed it. All a matter of taste I suppose.

Cape Coral (affectionately known as Cape Coma by some residents) is not Ft. Myers, eh?
