Napa Room VS Actual California Grill

Hi everyone! We have the Napa room booked for our reception which will be held from 1:00pm-5:00pm. We're getting worried that we might outgrow the space in the Napa room, especially if we choose to have a DJ (which is still up in the air.) Could someone remind me of how you can book the California Grill? You can do it if it's before the restaurant actually opens for dinner, right? What is the minimum? Is there a capacity you have to meet? Is it the same catering menu that the Napa room uses? Thanks for any help in advance :goodvibes

I think you have to be finished by 4:00pm. There is no minimum as far as people but there is a minimum 3K food and beverage and that doesn't include your cake because the cake would come from the GF. Hope that helps! If you will meet that minimum I would switch as I think it would be worth it to have the whole restaurant for your party.

Thanks. I went and looked through the Wishbook and found that all the minimums and everything are the same, but the 4:00 thing is different. I'm totally fine having a 3 hour reception instead of 4 if it means having more space. I emailed my EM's assistant to see if that's a possibility. Are the views and everything just as great in the CG?? Are they even better? ;)

I would think the views would be better or the same (never been inside the Napa or Sonoma rooms, I have only seen pictures)! I think the restaurant is just so amazing because of the view and it has such a light and airy feel to it as opposed to being stuck in one room. I also am not too fond of the standard decor in those rooms so I think it is a better option to use the restaurant. I will post some pics later on of the restaurant and the view.. I have to transfer them to photo bucket to put them up and then hopefully you will have a better understanding!

Thank you! That's how I felt about the Napa room too. That carpet - ugh! I can't let myself 'hate' it too much, though, because my EM still hasn't responded yet about switching ;)

UPDATE:

I heard back from my EM today and she gave me a WONDERFUL breakdown of all the options at the Contemporary and the minimums for each location. I thought the Napa room minimum was $3000, but that's only for things beginning in the evening. Our minimum was actually only $1000. The CG minimum is $3000.

So, DF and I have been having a 'debate' over what we should do. We know that about 25-30 are coming for sure, and then we have about 10-15 maybes. If we have a DJ in the Napa room, we are only going to have room for 30 people which is cutting it close and is pretty risky.

However, if we are in the CG and we end up only having 30, then we will have to pay an extra $750 for our minimum for nothing (this is my fiance's major concern.) Plus, my mom is worried the room will look so big and empty. However, it IS so much prettier and has a better view. UGH! What to do... I asked my EM if we could go see both spaces when we go down for our PS in January. My mom and sister are going with us, so maybe that will help. Thanks for listening :) :)

You're welcome. I know that must be a hard decision. Hopefully it will be made easier by seeing the rooms when you are down there for your PS.

We were debating this earlier...

The Napa room is tight with 30+ people. If you add a DJ, I believe you have to take out a few tables (I may be wrong on this one).

We were borderline 30-35 people...and we are going to spend around $3000 anyway. You can't beat the views from the main dining room. The views from Napa are great, but I think you have to look at an angle to see MK.

Basically it is a large space, but we spread items out. We had dancing in one section with a "pre-reception section" Dinner in another section, cake in another, etc. It didn't seem to big to us. It was great to be able to move around and not feel too crowded! We had about 48 people. Hope this helps!

That helps a lot! I know when a room says it holds 50, you really want to have quite a few less than that for it to be comfortable. We would probably be fine, but once you add in the space for the DJ and dancing there's no way. I never heard back about being able to go see the rooms while we're there in January, but we made a PS for the CG so we'll get to see that space at least :) I'm really thinking it will be the best bet. Don't want to get my hopes up, though, just in case! Thanks again!!

Does anybody have more pics of the Napa room then come from the WC? Reading these posts have me worried now, we've booked the Napa room for $4k because its an evening reception (7-10pm). Is the carpet really that bad? And you may have to look sideways to see MK??

We upgraded from the Sonoma because we were told this is a better room. Opinions please?!!

Have you seen the old pictures of the Contemporary hotel rooms? I think it's that same carpet. Not so cute! You know the purplish color with the colorful squares and shapes on it?? It's really not that bad of a room, I just think I'd like the CG better. However, we still haven't made up our minds. Do a search because when we first thought about what to choose I had a thread where people gave me pictures of the Napa room. I'll see if I can find it.

Thanks! We're pretty much set on the Napa at this point but it'd be nice to see some more pictures...What kind of dog is Riley?? Too cute!! :cool1:

I've eaten in both the Napa room and the actual CG area and they both are very nice. Napa has a more romantic, cozy feeling where as CG has a more open, airy feel and beautiful views of the MK. I love them both! :lovestruc
