NAP ZONES... I personally don't this this is silly but....

If we are tired enough we fall sleep in certain rides like COP in the MK. There is at least on ride like this in every park. I rather go back to our room take a quick nap, change clothes, take my shoes off and even take a quick shower. The difference in how we feel after a quick nap at the park vs going to he room is huge.

They definitely need more cool, comfortable places to sit and rest (esp. your feet!) at the parks - recharge your batteries and then get back to spending money. Guests aren't spending money during the time it takes to get to your resort and back, and depending on where you are staying that could be a lot of time! Guests probably aren't spending a ton of money at their resort during the break time either. (And guests staying offsite are spending no Disney money during their break times.)

The parks are where people spend the most money. Finding ways to keep them in the parks for as long as possible would seem to be financially beneficial to Disney.
However, it kind of seems that's the opposite direction they are heading with removing park benches, limiting FastPasses, etc. It almost seems like they are encouraging people to spend more time at resorts and less time in the parks.

I agree... you want to keep them in the parks as often as possible. Taking a break at the park means that once I'm refreshed I'm still at the park. But as another poster said... leaving to go "home" to your resort can mean getting in that room and CRASHING... period. You could be gone from the parks 2-3 hours.

I Didnt know they were doing things like removing park benches and limiting fastpasses? Unless their rationale is for you to SIT IN A RESTAURANT (be it TS or QS) or a ride if you are tired.

Haha, so true. Also human nature to complain I think. Of course, I never do....:rolleyes1

I am actually surprised more airports aren't putting something like this in, particularly international hubs. I feel like I have seen a few on tv, but they are most likely overseas.

I just saw someone comment about this elsewhere. Oh maybe I read it in that "no longer at Disney" thread. It is such a shame, and it seems quite odd. One would presume they have a reason, but I can't figure it out.

I know this thread is for fun, but it does have a legitimate point. If Disney truly wants us to spend money, then you would think they'd want to do everything possible to keep folks in the parks. I am not saying paid nap pods is the answer, but certainly having benches where people can rest their feet, relax, and then get back at it makes financial sense. Then again, maybe enough people just suck it up ("we paid for it!") and march on. Personally, in lieu of resting in the park, I'd rather lose travel time to the hotel than commando on...at least with kids. When they are miserable, everyone is miserable, including those around you. But, everyone travels differently!

I TYPED THIS A FEW SECOND AGO IN RESPONSE TO THAT POST
"I Didnt know they were doing things like removing park benches and limiting fastpasses? Unless their rationale is for you to SIT IN A RESTAURANT (be it TS or QS) or a ride if you are tired. "

Many of us seem to be on the same page that it makes better dollar sense for Disney to keep us in the park.

I don't think they want to keep people in the park past a certain point. I'd say 6-8 hours at most. Think of the commercials..."Enjoy your WDW Resort" They want people doing other things rather than the parks, they want to market it as an whole vacation that includes the resort. The resort not just being a place to sleep.

On our last trip I was surprised to see a man and woman taking a nap at EPCOT...at the edge of a walkway. There was still room for people to walk by, but I thought it was a strange place for someone to actually lay down (they were using their backpacks as pillows).

Well certainly I would have found a better place if I was that sleepy. But thats just another testament to people napping about the parks.

I was very surprised a few weeks ago after the Wishes FP+ area opened all the people stretched out laying on the lawn, some on a towel or blanket, def lots of families with infants allowing them to lay, stretch and be out of stroller.

For myself I am able to take a nice power nap in Hall of Presidents or Carousel of Progress. Never crowded. Seats. Dark. A/C. Fairly quiet. Long enough.

I have seen pictures of thew new area. Got to admit that it does look strange with all the people sprawled out on the fake grass. lol.

I can see where they have pool bars, lounges, restaurants, food courts and resort attractions like carriage rides, fishing, etc. But for the most part - the person who is going to do that is still going to do that. I noted earlier that there are indeed times when you really want to go back to your resort because you want more than a short break....you actually want to hang out at your resort if just to be in your air conditioned room watching tv for a few hours. But those are not the circumstances that we are talking about. I think we are talking about people who want to take a breather / nap (30-90 minutes, etc) and then get immediately back to hopping about the parks and attractions. Ive heard a number of people talk about needing to take a break and going back to their resorts for one to two hours and spending so much time getting to the resort and back to the parks. The resorts certainly have things to do that are worth your while with employees who need your patronage to keep their jobs.... and taking a break at the Parks is not going interrupt the financial flow at the resorts.

While I agree that in theory a designated napping spot would be ideal, the logistics of it would be a nightmare. Mainly, securiyt/liability, each person's napping style is subjective, location/space, etc. And I think if they were to start charging for a nap zone/pod, then most people will think, "I'm already paying for a place to rest (my resort hotel room), I'm not going to pay more". That's just my thinking, though.

For me, I have a few resting places scoped out in each park. Off the top of my head: the rocking chairs on the porches outside Hall of Presidents in MK, the shaded area between Splash Mountain and BTMRR (not when there's a character M&G, usually later in the day/evening), the covered benches/rocking chairs at the dock just outside BTMRR (it's a DSA, though), the grassy area outside of Mission:SPACE (I call it the "Dad nap spot" because I always see exhausted dads sprawled out there), the benches on the pathways outside of DINOSAUR in AK, and the area near Studio Catering Co. in HS since it's shaded & cool. I've napped during Captain EO (unintentionally), Peoplemover, Carousel of Progress (unintentionally), and Spaceship Earth. I know some people have recommended napping at the Fez House in the Morocco pavilion since it's quiet back there, but I wouldn't feel comfortable napping there. Maybe rest my feet & legs a bit and enjoy the architecture, but I don't think I could actually sleep there.

Hello All:

I have had so many conversations about people who return back to their resorts for a midday nap - which makes a lot of sense. It also makes sense that one may indeed need to do this - for whatever reason - AT their RESORT. But for myself when I want a break (I dont have children mind you) I just find one of those rides I can chill on and stay on multiple times if needed (like the Peoplemover.. or a ferry ride).

As a New Yorker many of us are familiar with the that giant sunbathing lawn we have at Central Park. I have always thought MK could would benefit from a designated "chill" or "Nap" zone - with available lawn chairs for reasonable rent or for free. I have even seen it in my mind as an indoor area (to escape sun or rain) that might have indoor grass and perhaps something for entertainment / refreshments (snacks, PAY-TV chairs (with headsets) for those who may just want a break but don't need a lawn chair to sleep) - but it would have to be a QUIET ZONE. I have thought about belongings and I think Disney is such a safe place that you can take a 15-30-60 minute nap and not have your belongings lifted if they are in your hand, but perhaps that is pushing it. Perhaps even a place to check your belongings.

I just thought this might serve as a good idea for people who don't want to lose that hour or 90 minutes or more to return to their resorts.. just people who want a short break... especially for families with small children that go in collapse mode. Parents can watch them sleep and just chill with a drink or a snack and get a bit of a rest for themselves as well.

This make sense to anyone else??? (*_*)

Isn't this why we have Hall of Presidents? We also use COP and People Mover for the same purpose.

"Unintentionally"
.... lol.

I am still thinking along the line of the huge lawn in New York City's CENTRAL PARK where hundreds do this every warm day of the year. It's just a chill zone. Some may be just reading. Some may be sun bathing and some by dozing as they catch their rays. It doesnt have to be more complicated than this. NYC is a crazy town... if it's done everyday here... something relative can be done at Disney.... not involving rocket science. Regarding security and liability... Disney would be no more or less responsible for your security if you just nap off of the edge of a walking path the way someone else described a couple of posts up. And as for people not spending money... then those resting people still aren't spending when they are resting on the Carousel of Progress. When people want to take a nap / rest.. they are going to do it. Usually the wake-up means heading to a restaurant or QS stand for a snack or small meal.

LOL. Well Scrapquitler... I wouldnt say this is why we have those attractions albeit this is how we use them. We're just talking about a place that would REALLY be designated for it.
