Names on fish extenders

I know there was a thread started about this subject a while ago, but I can't find it.

I can't decide whether to put first names, just last name, or no names on my fish extender.

What did you consider when making your decision?

Some mentioned security concerns, especially with last names. What kind of security concerns should I be thinking about?

Our last and first names won't be on ours for practical purposes, we would likely never be sailing again without my husband, the boys and I are sailing with my parents this time so it seemed like a waste to permanently afix names to it so we would likely never be able to use it again. Instead I bought letter patches with our first initial and I will attach those with velcro to the pockets. Our first names will be on magnets on our door but not our last names. I know some people would be concerned with strangers knowing their child's first name.

You mentioned a couple things I had thought about. I think I might have more concern about my child's first name being displayed than a last name. And we also don't always cruise with the same people, so for that reason also I was thinking a generic fish extender. But ... my magnets have names. :confused3 I haven't printed them though, so I could remove them.

Then there's the issue of non-personalized items being more likely stolen. I can secure the fish extender with a zip tie, but there's no way to secure a non-personalized magnet.

I'm probably overthinking this.

On our FE I just use first names. I print out the names on printable iron-on fabric. I can remove/change out the names depending on who's on each cruise as necessary (just re-heat and peel off).

This is the same FE for 2 different cruises: Picture on top was changed and 3rd person in room was different:

We put our names on our FE and didn't not worry about anything. :thumbsup2

Us too - our last name only is on our FE, but our first names are on our door magnets, so all the info is there.

We had a great one with no names that was stolen the last night of cruise just a week ago. I'm so bummed. Wish I had our first names on it. Or had used a zip tie.

I did initials on my FE (just first initials), and first names on the door. I'd never put a surname out for people to see for safety reasons.

I am constantly amazed at how many people put their children's names (and sometimes photos) right there on the door of their "home," letting every single adult inboard the ship who walks by their names.

Why give strangers that information, along with where your children can be found every day? To me, it's just not a safe thing to do. When I posted this previously, people commented things like, "but we're on a Disney ship!" If someone thinks that there isn't one bad seed anywhere on a ship simply because it's Disney, I personally believe that's being a bit naive.

As for your last name, I guess it's the same thought process. Why give strangers (who already know where to find you and your children every day) additional information?

Just my view,
Dreams

Please share! I know people think it isn't safe... And I certainly don't want to endanger my kids... But I can't imagine how it would be a problem??

Our names are on our FE and door and I see no problem with it from a safety standpoint. My son is only 6 so it is not like he is roaming the halls without me.

Our first names are on our FE AND we have our last name on our magnets! I have never secured my FE and it's a pretty awesome handcrafted one if I may say so myself. Yes, we like to live on the edge!party:

I put our first names. I use them on the boards and elsewhere on the internet (personal blogs, facebook, etc). I also hope that it would deter theft. It helps identify to others they have the right room, if they're looking for us.

I left our last name off because of a few reasons. For one, I don't think it's necessary for strangers to be that formal with us. Two, security reasons, someone mentioned that knowing your stateroom and last name of the account could lead to unwanted charges. Three, it's the Disney Way, first names only! :thumbsup2

But all charges are made through you room key, and if the vendor has a screen your picture comes up. How could knowing your last name lead to unwanted charges unless your key to the world (what is it called on ships?) was stolen. Plus, cameras around the ship indicate it wouldn't be too hard to catch someone using your name and room number (not that they could buy anything without your key card). Doesn't make sense to me.

I have our last name on the FE as well as our first names on the door.

If someone wants to find out your name, they will.
Spend 5 minutes at the Goofy pool and you will know every childs name there.
